5 great content discovery sites which aren't Digg (Download Squad)
Sep 4th 2010 8:17AM What separates MetaFilter from all others is the quality of the posts and the comments. For the most part, they are actually interesting and flame-free. Yes, you'll get the occasional troll, but the community is actively self-policing.
I think the reason for this is simple: there's actually a small barrier to entry. You have to pay $5 to be able to post and comment. It's not onerous, and it's not a huge barrier, but it weeds out 99% of the drive-by flamers.
Livedrive goes live (online storage and backup) (Download Squad)
Feb 18th 2009 8:16PM I know the main point of the article is Livedrive, but you also mentioned Carbonite. I would just like to point out that Carbonite was recently busted for engaging in sleazy stealth marketing practices. Some of their executives were caught posting reviews on Amazon under phony names without disclosing that they were employees.

Disclosure: I have no affiliation with Carbonite, Livedrive, or any of the companies mentioned here.

Giveaway Monday: How I Met Your Mother season two (AOL TV)
Sep 24th 2007 11:41AM My favorite Barney quote:
"Look, our forefathers died for the 'pursuit of happiness,' okay? Not for the 'sit around and wait of happiness.' Now if you want, we can go to the same bar, drink the same beer, talk to the same people every day or you can lick the Liberty Bell. You can grab life by the crack and lick the crap out of it."

May 6th 2006 8:44AM Having someone from the other party on the Cabinet is not without precedent. William Cohen, a Republican, served as Secretary of Defense for President Clinton's second term.
Don't get me wrong. I think the idea of Vinick as Secretary of State is *fantastic* (Hawkeye as a diplomat!). But it's not completely original.
The West Wing: Here Today (AOL TV)
Nov 22nd 2005 6:48PM Does anybody want to see this from Toby's side? He saved the lives of those astronauts when nobody else could or would do anything. He went for the human element, not political expediency. I would have expected CJ, least of all, to understand that. This is the same woman who broke down in tears when debating the morality of doing nothing to help the women who were being tortured in Qumar with Nancy McNally. The part that made me laugh out loud, though, was the pure look of disbelief on Kate's face when Mr. Frost asked her out. After all that he put her though, he had the gall to ask her out for coffee? Priceless moment.
