The iOS app adds some of the features already built into the phone
It was nothing to do with the Companion except maybe show people what they're missing.
And no, the companion won't come to iOS because what reason do they have to negate a huge benefit of owning a windows phone.

The only reason XP was around so long is Vista got delayed multiple times and then was completely restarted.
Normal releases are 2-3 years

Just the like the 360
and the original Xbox.
and, although it was CE instead of NT, the Dreamcast.
And if you didn't notice the upcoming 360 dash is retooled for a similar (though not identical) UI to Windows 8.
