Zap-a-tag lets you publicly shame bad motorists (Download Squad)

May 9th 2009 11:08PM @r3loaded

Yes, but there are a lot more regular drivers on the road than there are government employees. I know people who work in fast food, and they get drunks at the drive-through every night. If there is a cop there, the drunks simply go elsewhere, but if an employee or customer simply sends in the info, then they still get shamed.

Hopefully the cops will look at this page, figure out where all the drunks are and make some better roadblocks.

Nokia's App Store will launch with 20,000 items (Download Squad)

May 9th 2009 9:41PM Nokia has had private software repositories for their N series (N770, N800, N810) devices for YEARS. Every time some does a report on these "software stores", they don't realise that Nokia has been doing this since before even apple.

The only difference was that everything in the repositories are FREE.

Oh, did I mention that you can add your OWN custom repositories and download you OWN software without so much as an email to Nokia?

I can't wait till the day when all phones are simply small, open, linux devices with built in 3G support and the ability to add your own software and repositories.

Minnesota tells ISPs to block gambling sites (Download Squad)

May 1st 2009 7:16PM There is a big difference between visiting a gambling site and actually gambling on the site. What happens when a student wants to do a school report on the affects of online gambling, and can't even access the homepage to get a screenshot? Instead of blocking us from even seeing the website of a place where you can do something illegal (in that state), they should simply go after the people that DO break the law.

IMHO, this is akin to blocking websites that offer "escort" services. It may be illegal to pay for an "escort", but you should still be able to go to the website.

Note: by "escort", I don't mean the legit ones (if those even exist anymore).
