Ford's second-gen SYNC system off to a buggy start *UPDATE (Autoblog)
Mar 30th 2011 7:48PM How long has software and computer hardware been part of a car now? 20 years?
Yet Ford and Microsoft can unblushingly excuse this kind of buggy 1990s-computing-era experience? What drives SYNC... Windows XP?
Ford and Microsoft have stuffed up big on this, and deserve all the criticism they get. There's absolutely no reason this technology shouldn't be rock solid.
Report: 2011 Lexus CT 200h to start at $29,120* (Autoblog)
Dec 14th 2010 7:17PM There is just no conviction with this design. It looks like a committee was given a photobook of 5 year old designs, and told to cut and paste them into a new design. Sometimes a characterless shape can be given some life by nice detailing, but not here - even the details are soul-destroyingly lifeless. Who would actually buy this thing?
Report: Mazda working on next-gen rotary-powered RX-9 (Autoblog)
Nov 4th 2010 8:20PM Still the same old Mazda faux-design tricks, but maybe toned back slightly... ie, take a fairly standard profile, and add curly-cues, never use a straight line when you can insert a curl or a scallop, exaggerate, exaggerate, exaggerate. Good designers have original ideas, and know when to stop. Mazda goes for effect with no substance.

Sep 27th 2010 10:15PM Survival Rule No 1: NEVER rely on other drivers' abilities to avoid you. When he drove so fast into oncoming traffic, was pure luck no-one veered into him. This guy's probably already dead... or back in the mental hospital where he belongs.
GM releases 2011 Holden Series II family for Australia (Autoblog)
Aug 31st 2010 9:01PM These are looking so tired already, the nose tweak is a bit of an embarrassment really. Fit and finish inside are Toyota circa 1990 - all hard plastic and gaps. The ugly unfinished end to the handbrake is one of the nastiest bits of interior design I've ever seen. The performance models make up for some of the boredom, but you still have to look at them...
Hublot reveals F1 King Power watch during Chinese Grand Prix (Autoblog)
Apr 23rd 2010 9:46PM Oh good, a watch to match my Pirelli ashtray and Michelin wall-clock. These things are free too, aren't they?

Pics Aplenty: Bugatti 16C Galibier is back... in black (Autoblog)
Mar 16th 2010 8:59PM This car should look stunning in specially lit studio photos! It's a weird mix of elegance and vulgarity. Pure pimp-mobile: Those stupid 8 exhausts, the hideous headlights, glowing wheel centres (!), and the Ettore Bugatti signature plastered over everything. Are we supposed to forget that VAG bought the brand, and that poor old Ettore has zero links with these cars? Are the people at VAG really that arrogant and contemptuous?
I wonder if this model will be sold for a profit, or if it will be another Veyron, which VAG sells for a huge loss just to buy "respect".
Jay Leno to cram SLS AMG's V8 into 1969 Mercedes 6.3 (Autoblog)
Dec 17th 2009 8:12PM Why???
Has Leno gone senile? Leave this beautiful thing alone.
Fifth Gear: Hope yet for Britain's other car show? (Autoblog)
Dec 4th 2009 6:51PM The presenters on Fifth Gear always come across as try-hards... compared to the effortless performances on Top Gear. There's a big element of NAFF, the result of really loose production values - and yes they really should sack at least half the presenters. Still, I hope they solve their problems, not throw out the whole thing. Trying to outdo Top Gear will never work.
