RedLaser for iPhone scans for bargains (TUAW.com)
May 18th 2009 4:56PM I just bought the app, tried it and it didn't work even after 10 tries! I tried to make sure that there was no glare, that the view was aligned correctly with the barcode and that the distance was also just right. No luck!
Even if I am doing something wrong, it's too much effort to get it just right. When you are in a store and want to look up something quickly, it will be much, much faster to either use SnapTell (for books) or just type the name into Google Mobile App.
*sigh* $1.99 wasted. May be it will get better with time and I will get my money's worth then.

Did Apple set developers up for failure? (TUAW.com)
Jul 14th 2008 10:13AM I absolutely agree with this. The phrase "set up" implies that Apple knowingly released an "unstable" version of 2.0 just to make the developers look bad. This, of course, is absoutely hogwash and to claim this is absolute shoddy journalism. However, I am seeing more and more sensationalist headlines and content on TUAW which leads me to believe that pageviews + ads play a big role in the "blogger vs journalist" debate. I really hope TUAW smartens up.
AT&T posts iPhone 3G information (TUAW.com)
Jul 1st 2008 12:34PM Yup, they are talking about an iPhone-only family plan. From the official release:
"AT&T will offer FamilyTalk plans, with bundled voice and unlimited data, starting as low as $129.99 a month for two iPhone 3G lines. Up to three additional iPhone lines can be added for $39.99 each."
So, hopefully other family plans (where only the primary line is an iPhone) will work just fine with the new iPhone after you pay the $199/$299 for the device and the $18 activation fee.
AT&T posts iPhone 3G information (TUAW.com)
Jul 1st 2008 12:08PM I have a family plan as well and I am equally appalled.
However, if I think about it, I think what they mean is a family plan where both the lines in the plan are iPhones. Or at least, I hope that's what they mean because the other interpretation is just crazy !!!
Apple posts iPhone 3G Guided Tour (TUAW.com)
Jul 1st 2008 10:27AM Did anyone notice what he said about the GPS: "As long as you have the tracking mode on, your position will remain in the center of the map, even as you move from place to place !" So, instead of the tracking button being a thing that you press once to locate yourself, you can pretty much track yourself if you have a GPS signal available. Isn't this new information ?

Facebook featured on new iPhone ad (TUAW.com)
Feb 5th 2008 11:18PM Am I the only one who noticed that the incoming call notification screen in those ads is not the usual screen ? On my iPhone, the picture of the caller fills the entire screen, it's not up there in the right hand corner. Is there a way to set that option somewhere in the settings ? I couldn't find it.
Quicksilver plug-ins for Google Calendar and Gmail (TUAW.com)
May 4th 2006 4:12PM Huh. I guess there is some delay in adding the event. I just checked (it's been about 5 minute since I added the event) and the event is now showing up in the calendar. Thanks for the tip !
