AOL to provide 5GB of online storage for free (Download Squad)

Oct 5th 2006 8:33AM Hey, I did try Xdrive. First of all, it is restricted to AOL users. Secondly, the whole signup process was messy and overlong. To catch a glimpse of Xdrive web interface, I had to wait and wait. I had never encountered such issues with another online service I use called IBackup.

Uploading my files using Xdrive looked really painful. Most of the time, it was awfully slow. Sometimes I was unable to login also. God knows the reasons for the error messages that kept appearing. All these drove me to trying IBackup for Windows. It’s a hassle-free application and I did find it suited to my needs, even though there is no free offer.

Backups and restores are really fast. I scheduled daily backups of all my important data and so far no failures reported. I can easily restore old versions of files through Snapshots. To share my files, all I have to do is to ask Web-Manager to create sharable links. I have to email these links to people with whom I wish to collaborate. I can also Private Share data with another IBackup user. I can manage my online account with IDrive that maps my online IBackup account as a network drive on my computer.

All in all this is a much better application for online backups and restores of my files and folders. No need to pay your bills twice and there will no problems with refunds.

Sep 29th 2006 8:15AM If you are really serious about secure storage of all your important data in a trusted online storage service, then you have to try IBackup's IBackup for Windows. None other than PC World recently rated IBackup as the `best all-round backup service’ in a review of online backup services. To get a feel of IBackup’s features, you can try their free trial. IBackup has both browser based and downloadable applications for Windows, Linux / Unix and Mac platforms.

You can do quick and efficient backups and restores of all your important files and folders, including open files, with IBackup. IBackup does not consume much network bandwidth, because it transfers only portions a modified file. It also have a feature called ‘Snapshots’ that allows you to retain changed data history for a period of time. You can view the files stored in the IBackup account during the previous days in new directories and restore the required versions of files from this historical view of data. Cool, is not it?

Download IDrive, which maps your IBackup online storage account as a local drive on your computer allowing you to drag-and-drop, open, edit and save files in your online backup account as if they were on your local computer.
Also try IDrive Multimedia , an Internet hard drive designed for multimedia use. Simply move your music and video files to your IBackup account and double-click on these files. It will open up your media player and play the multimedia file.

With Web-Manager it’s possible to create folders, upload, webload files, rename, delete and share files or folders with others for collaborative access. The `Private Share’ feature in Web-Manager allows an IBackup user to instantly share data with another IBackup user. You can also create sharable links and email them to your friends and partners

You can also try IBackup Professional, which provides a secure and efficient backup solution. The files and folders you backup are encrypted with a user-defined key so that the data stored on IBackup Professional servers cannot be decrypted by anybody other than you. You can also restore up to 30 prior versions of files, including the most recent version of the data files.

May 30th 2006 8:15AM Hi, take a look at www.ibackup.com. It’s a trusted service loaded with features to backup, store and share critical files and folders. I use IBackup for Windows which performs online backups for Windows desktops, laptops and servers.

IBackup gives you lots of cool features like IDrive Multimedia (www.ibackup.com/IDrive_mmedia.htm) using which you can create playlists of your favorite music mp3s and then listen to them with a media player. You can also share data with IDrive.

For Mac users, IDrive for Mac (www.ibackup.com/ibdrivemac_new.htm) is an excellent desktop interface for working with your IBackup online account. It is possible to copy-and-paste, drag-and-drop, and directly edit your files with IDrive for Mac. All you need to do is download the application, double-click to install, and start the IDrive for Mac. IDrive for Mac supports file and folder names longer than 31 characters and files larger than 2GB.

Other cool features of IBackup include the Snapshots option with which an IBackup account holder can view the files and folders stored in his IBackup account during the previous days. IBackup offers several schemes for both personal and enterprise users. It’s a safe service to use as it has enabled 128-bit SSL encryption for all communication.
