Google offers up to a 40% discount on all JPEGs -- with new WebP format! (Download Squad)
Oct 1st 2010 2:00AM I still disagree, even with a 1,000,000. I don't know for sure, but certainly feel that by and large most images of the web are not optimized as good as they could be using jpg and likely could be further compressed without noticeable degradation. The samples google provides are recompressed jpgs on their blog are just recompressed jpgs, and without knowing the compression level used on those images we don't have a baseline to know if we could chose to compress the images further with similar results.
If I remember correctly jpg offers a scale of compression/quality from 1-12. If someone was so interested they could take a lossless source image. illustrate each level of compression and provide side by side comparisons between the two. You'd expect to see relatively that a jpg at compression level 8 yields the same quality image as a webp at a higher compression level on the same scale.

Oct 1st 2010 12:13AM Sounds misleading to me. How many of those images weren't properly optimized to begin with? I'd be more interested in a direct comparisons of uncompressed source images saved to the respective formats.

Oct 26th 2009 10:12PM Likely they entered some type of contract to sponsor the program which I'd expect to include a termination fee in the cancellation clause... But I guess it's still a good deal for them if they got the Win7 references in without having to pay the full bill.

What other 10--it is 50 times per second not minute if that is what you were thinking?
I was interested though, at 15mph you are travelling 22ft/s. Devide that by 50 and about every 5 1/3 inches the car is sampling the distance. *Sounds* pretty reasonable to me, but I have no idea.
