BlackHole RAT Mac OS X backdoor Trojan virus mimics password prompt (Download Squad)

Mar 1st 2011 1:36PM I don't see why a trojan is news. Anyone can write a trojan. You don't have to exploit anything other than a clueless user to p3wn a system with a trojan. If this was a worm then this would be interesting.

What is the vector for infection here? Does this sneak in via a network or does a dumb user have to manually execute the trojan?

Fight Firesheep with FireShepherd (Download Squad)

Oct 30th 2010 11:05PM This is silly. FireShepherd doesn't do anything to solve the problem.
The only fix is for sites to fix their security problems.

Report: Steve Jobs was 'furious' over Microsoft's acquisition of Bungie (TUAW.com)

Oct 27th 2010 1:57PM I'm still bitter that Microsoft screwed over Bungie's Mac AND Windows customers.
Microsoft forced Bungie to rewrite Halo so it would run on the pitiful hardware in the xbox, cutting content and delaying the release by a year. Next came Halo 2, which was intended to boost sales of Vista. And after that, releases were xbox only.

For Microsoft, the Halo franchise was nothing more than a tool to make up for the lack of innovation and quality in their other products. "Hey, Vista sucks but Halo is cool. Let's screw the fans and force them to run Vista if they want Halo 2." Typical Microsoft - disrespecting the customer. Halo is dead to me.

Parallels Desktop 6 appears on store shelves (TUAW.com)

Sep 6th 2010 12:08PM I'm holding a grudge against Parallels.
I was an early adopter but got burned because they charge for EVERY UPDATE. I can't run Parallels on Snow Leopard unless I rebuy the product.

VMWare doesn't requite that, which is good, but VirtualBox is free which is even better. Forget Parallels, VirtualBox rules.

Malicious Linux screensaver proves any OS's biggest vulnerability is sitting in the chair (Download Squad)

Dec 10th 2009 4:37PM Doesn't sound like a virus to me.
This is a trojan. Anybody can write a trojan, it's trivial and has nothing to do with the security of an OS, simply the gullibility of a user. If you run some software from a malicious source, shame on you.

Nice thing about Linux is that unless you're crazy enough to run as root, this could only wipe out your user account, not your entire system.
