Last.fm on XBL: free to gold subscribers, 3 hours per month for others (Joystiq)

Jun 30th 2009 8:52PM It's free via Flash in some locations (US, UK and Germany), but the general tone of the announcement so far is that it will be available free to all Xbox Live Gold users in all locations.

It may be possible to access last.fm on the Wii or PS3 but the experience won't be as tightly integrated, considering the general success of the new Xbox dashboard.

In terms of content, last.fm has a lot that you won't find on services such as Spotify (I can't speak for Pandora). Artists from smaller labels (or no label at all) can upload their music to last.fm for people to stream (or download), so there's a huge library.

This'll be great if your TV has a good set of speakers (or is linked up to larger ones) and you don't want to start up your computer to listen to some music, or find something new to listen to. I look forward.

Jun 30th 2009 8:38PM From a UK company, too. One of the reasons I haven't subscribed to last.fm, despite being a happy free user.

last.fm for a year (£36) or Xbox Live for a year (£4 more)? I'll take Xbox Live, thanks.

Then again, this year Microsoft essentially paid for Xbox Live (free gift) - but I'm still keeping my money in my wallet. =P

iPhone 3G is finally official, starts at $199, available July 11th (Engadget)

Jun 10th 2008 1:23PM Sparticus: Just checked these out on o2's site.

The 8GB is £99 on the £35 and the new £30 tariffs, free on £45 or £55.
16GB's £159 on £30 and £35, £59 on £45 - still free on £55.

(The £30 tariff is rubbish though! A quarter of the minutes and an eighth of the texts compared to £35. No point.)

It's even coming to pay-and-go - though, seeing as you have to have to pay full price for the phone anyway, it'll probably cost more.

So, turns out he wasn't joking - it really is no more than $199.

iPod touch first hands-on (Engadget)

Sep 5th 2007 3:51PM Aren't these things meant to be mineral glass on the front?

Of course, the back'll get scratched anyway.

I can vouch for Invisible Shields though (admittedly, I get mine from Best Skins Ever, but it's more or less the same thing).

iPod nano 3G first hands-on (Engadget)

Sep 5th 2007 3:48PM Because they're *old*.

They're not *new*, so they don't get the *new* stuff.

Not only that, considering that the menu on the iPod Video is noticably slower when music is playing, I doubt it's got the processing power anyway.

Sep 5th 2007 3:00PM At least Apple aren't as bad as Sony:

- replace *just the firmware* of a device (NW-A800, specifically) to allow syncing with WMP, etc. and not SonicStage
- give it an entirely new model line (NWZ-A810)
- offer no software updates to current owners (either for SonicStage or player firmware)

All within *4 months* of launching the original.

Hence why my NW-A800 is being sold. Tomorrow.

I'll buy one of these *JUST* to spite Sony for being so gutless as to completely forget about the current userbase when releasing a product.

Sep 5th 2007 2:54PM Great advice if you're in the iPhone's only market.

There's a world outside the US, y'know.
