Mobile subscribers should be given full and unfettered wireless Internet access (The Wireless Report)
Dec 19th 2006 1:35PM I agree and I think it would be really cool from a user point of view. I think the main reason the carriers are resistant is how telcoms are just conduits now and there isn't much for them to do anymore to provide shareholders with bigger returns. That's why telcoms wanted to end net neutrality so they could be more like the carriers and hopefully monetize every little transaction.
It's going to take a pretty popular off-deck app to bring about the kind of pressure needed for a carrier like verizon to unclench. I was hoping that a mobile youtube would have been that app. I wish youtube would still build an off-deck mobile portal but i'm sure the deal with verizon would preclude that. Aside from reading industry blogs and news, I really don't see your average joe right now want more then just a cool looking phone with a few bells and whistle they can occasionally use when bored or stuck waiting.

Dec 4th 2006 8:21AM The only time wampad seems to be useful on the desktop is when people want to bypass their company/schools proxy rules and view their myspace page. I've been wanting to see if I can put wampad in a sidebar like google's or vista's but lately my day job has allowed me the luxury of time to work out the kinks.

Nov 11th 2006 10:42PM I'm using the ppc-6700 with sprint. excellent pda features and sprint unlimited data plan is great. I have it watching 7 email address's. The web browser is pocket IE which isn't great by itself but the multiie plugin is worth the money. I also use my site alot to get around the mobile web and get to more full sized sites. It also has a mini-sd slot, wifi, camera, bluetooth, slide out keyboard. Through bluetooth you can connect a laptop up for internet access but I haven't needed to try that yet. If your going to use the actual phone functions you'll need a nice corded or bluetooth headset because by itself it's a crappy phone. One thing i found out is that at a sprint store you can get phones half off if you ask them if they have any that were returned, it took a few calls to find the ppc-6700 but apparently it's a pretty popular returned phone because the phone features are so crappy out of the box. Once you have a headset it's a wonderful smartphone.

Nov 9th 2006 12:18AM I'd be willing to bet that the ravenwood entry and Jennings and Rall are plants by someone part of the show. Both were created on 10/24/06. Originally the article stated that the group was out of arkasas and jennings and rall was out of germany.

Mobile TV has captured the "industry's" attention -- what about the consumer? (The Wireless Report)
Sep 19th 2006 3:33PM I gave mobile tv a try and found it pretty annoying. The first problem was the position I had to keep my hand hurt my wrist after about a minute. The quality was pretty crappy but that could be fixed over time.
I think they should really stop thinking of it as pushing traditional tv and movies. I wished they called it mobile video so it could grow organically based on consumer response rather then how it's being handled today.
My though is that highlight shows would work well. I could see my mother in law spending 15 minutes of her lunch break catching up on her soap operas. The office webisodes would work also. If I really wanted to see a show or movie I would wait until I got home, there's no clear reason why I would want to watch a tv show on a 2 inch screen let alone a full length movie.
