Let's talk about those Hummingbird ads ... (Joystiq)

Jun 5th 2008 11:47AM Gah! I came to comment, and was blasted with the dreaded hummingbird w/ no skip button, then a busted tab! Curses!

All that noise aside, and aimed more at advertising in general: I have never seen an ad that made me want to buy a product. Ever. More often than not, it simply makes me want to avoid said product... Even in cases of funny/clever adverts, I end up nonplussed by the net effect.

Here's a thought: Instead of clogging up a site/TV station/train station/etc with a big honking tasteless ad, make your point quickly and discreetly. Let the consumer know of your product's existence, then GTFO and let ease of information and the superiority of your product drive sales.

Or, you know, annoy the sh*t out of me with eye-bleach-worthy gyrating presidential silhouettes telling me that my mortgage needs viagra to eliminate foot fungus so I can reconnect with former classmates on my new [tech product of choice].

Intel Nehalem system demonstrated at Computex (Engadget)

Jun 3rd 2008 8:16PM Though the software may be doing fundamentally different things under the surface, the interaction shown is very similar to the recent Silverlight-powered Hard Rock Memorabilia application, and that can be viewed without crazy processor specs on a normal x86 Mac/PC. It uses Microsoft's new Deep Zoom technology to allow for nested/sparse imagery.

All that aside, it's a cool demo of fast resource access and display anyway.

Two real muscle cars destroyed for art's sake... Art is mad (Autoblog)

May 16th 2008 4:36PM +1 for Vintage. Bill the hick, get off the internet. You can't afford to waste time on here with gas prices as they stand, and you wouldn't want your 'jap-crap' semiconductors to fail on you.

(PS: 67' Camaro SS, jet black... loved that car a lot, ended up becoming a complete money-pit)

EA deadline to Take-Two shareholders ends tonight (Joystiq)

May 16th 2008 1:06PM Actually, you have a very good point. Given the MS track record with Bungie, they would probably be the (far) lesser of two evils in a takeover.

However, the game would likely be renamed... Something along the lines of "Grand Theft Ultimate Auto beta 4 CTP Professional Edition for Windows". :P

In defense of vegetarianism (Slashfood)

May 13th 2008 4:47PM I applaud the article in that it addresses those idiots that care to rag on a vegetarian or vegan. I have many friends that have chosen to make the switch to a meatless lifestyle, and I don't bat an eye at their preference.

However, the issues mentioned turn into a two-way street in many cases. How many times have snotty, brainless hippie vegetarians/vegans looked at me enjoying a steak with a look of disgust?

Honestly, I don't have a problem killing my food, and the idea of ground meat makes me salivate. Call me a savage, but it's human nature... denying the existence of said traits is as far as to deny other instincts (such as the well-defended cravings mentioned by the author). The way I see it, a dietary choice is no grounds for discrimination, in either direction.

As for those that may take up arms to my previous paragraph, in the manner of the corruption and destruction wrought in bringing home the bacon, I try to diligently support more humane methods of getting my meal. I support free-range, natural chicken or beef. The same goes for sustainably farmed fish. It costs me extra, but I will gladly pay... It usually translates to a better product anyway. :)

GTA IV pirates recommend you 'go and buy this one' (Joystiq)

Apr 23rd 2008 4:15PM @Jakub: I, like many of my sane minded friends, fought both of his terms tooth and nail. Don't lump people like me in with the slack-jawed yokels that still think him a fit leader. Doing so would be equivalent of calling a German person of Jewish faith a nazi circa 1935, simply because that party took power while they lived there.

And, yes, I did just go there. Suck it, "bushlovers".

Apr 21st 2008 4:34PM Not sure I'm spelling it right (having a hard time googling it's existence, let alone a picture, but...):

"Pickled Micack"

Go to an Asian market, look in the appropriate section for pickled veggies, snicker at my pickled micack. :)
