Dry Fire - Time Waster (Download Squad)

Jul 30th 2007 2:26AM Fun game, a little too easy though. It only goes 30 levels and then announces that you've beaten it (and gives you a little cheat code that is fun). Not quite desktop tower defense but I enjoyed it!

Joost 0.9 released with better video and oh yeah, some ads too (Download Squad)

Apr 2nd 2007 8:13PM I would love an invite because I currently pay almost 200 bucks a month to my cable company and I want to show my wife that we don't have to pay that much just so she can watch reality tv 24 hours a day! Seriously, the only thing I can't get her to accept is being unable to just channel surf and watch 'something' anytime she wants. I would love to have joost on our media center pc!

Linux as a Windows system recovery option (Download Squad)

Jul 13th 2006 4:58PM I will say that I am also a fan of EBCD at http://ebcd.pcministry.com/ . There's even a nice tool there to reset the windows password if you do something dumb like I did last week. I put a fresh install of windows on my sister's computer last week (which she was using while she waited for her newly refurbished powerbook to arrive) and sent it back to her with a password set. Unfortunately, I didn't use one of my 'standard' passwords in this case and neglected to record it. So she got the computer and was completely unable to use it (I live in a different state). Frustrating until I told her how to make an EBCD.

Cheers!

The end of Windows 98 (and WinME) (Download Squad)

Jul 6th 2006 6:09PM I recently had occasion to work on a win 98SE computer. Someone donated a new printer for our church library (lexmark...ugh) and I was asked to make it work on the pc. The computer was a Pentium 200 with 32 megs of ram and was running win 98SE. I was actually surprised to find that the computer ran reasonably well (it wasn't networked...hmmm) even on that 'ancient' hardware. I had forgotten how well a stripped down version of 98 could run. I couldn't get the printer to work, though, so I pulled an old amd k6 or some such thing out of the closet (also 98SE) and fired it up with and everything worked fine once I transferred over the 1 program that the librarian wanted. I will add that I tried to run the k6 with ubuntu and it was absolutely unusable. It only has 64 megs of memory but I thought it would at least be useable. I'll be trying Damn Small Linux, just for fun, and see if I can get a comparable program to run under linux. I've also been thinking of using library thing to catalog our books and make our library searchable from any web browser. I wouldn't dream of putting 98 on the network with any of our other computers!

Google releases Picasa for Linux (Download Squad)

May 26th 2006 5:36PM I don't know about others but I have been waiting for this for a long time! I love Picassa and use it to manage my photo library and have set up my family to use it as well. I have been asking for a long time for a linux version as well as a mac version or at least a way to read/share iphoto libraries. This seems like a great step!
