Analysis: iTunes holds 12.6% of the US music market (TUAW.com)

Dec 4th 2008 10:43AM "of all the music purchased in the US, digital purchases have jumped to 18% of the total, and they expect it to go up to 41% of total sales over the next five years. That means that about 20% of all the music sold in the US is bought digitally."

Seems to me like your sentence with "about 20%" is not actually adding anything here. Or am I missing something? Are you just saying that 18% is "about 20%"??

Uncle Walt on MobileMe: Pass on it for now (TUAW.com)

Jul 24th 2008 2:27PM Put me in the "not ready" camp: bugs in synchronization, PLUS the fact that it does NOT synchronized calendar subscriptions (like from Basecamp or Tripit).

New system with LESS functionality than the old one? Get on the stick, Apple!

I should add that I'm also using an original iPhone with the 2.0 software and it also is much less stable that the pre-2.0 software: long pauses, resets, program crashes -- I never saw that stuff before.

TUAW Review: MobileMe (TUAW.com)

Jul 14th 2008 12:29PM Your review is incorrect with regard to subscribing to other people's calendars: in iCal you can subscribe to any standard webcal calendar feed. For example, I travel a lot, and I use the feed from Tripit.com (e.g. webcal://www.tripit.com/feed/ical/private/B7BD17C3-A254... )to subscribe to all my flight information.

Before iPhone 2.0 and MobileMe, that Tripit calendar subscription from iCal was mirrored across all my Macs, AND synced to my iPhone.

Now, it is not.

That's right: syncing subscribed-to calendars to my iPhone and to Mobile Me is not occurring.

Perhaps this is just Apple (still) getting the bugs out, but it will be a real drag for me if this "upgrade" actually produces less functionality.

Apple files for iPhone instant messaging patent (TUAW.com)

Apr 22nd 2008 6:27AM I doubt that "the one feature" that most iPhone users want is native instant messaging. For me, SMS works fine for those times when I want to "instantly" message someone and like most busy people I know I do not have time to be having IM conversations all the time. In fact, I stopped using Yahoo IM, iChat, and AIM long ago.

What I'd like on the iPhone is Epocrates (a medical app; I'm a doc), a note-taking app that syncs both ways to my Mac, and a faster network.

Shame you can't poll the whole group of iPhone users to find what they want, as I'm sure your readership is a tiny subset of the world of iPhone users.

Accordion-style USB drive actually solves a problem (Engadget)

Apr 5th 2008 11:23AM Why is there a "problem"? You've already reported on the Kingman smallest USB flash drives, which require no case and are practically indestructible:

Time Machine now works with AirPort Extreme's AirDisk feature (Engadget)

Mar 20th 2008 11:19AM Thanks very much for responding. I guess the problem is that we already have an AEBS and are on a tight budget, so don't want to buy any more drives. Also, I don't know why you say that the RAID solution you propose is more "reliable" than time machine. Is it because your data is duplicated on two backup drives?
