Ask DLS: What's your backup process? (Download Squad)
Mar 31st 2011 3:25PM I use Mozy Home (2GB free version) to back up my most valuable documents, and Acronis True Image to back up most of my computer every week. I say "most", because I have Acronis set to ignore the c:\Data folder, which contains all of my music, video and pictures. This is backed up to an external drive every morning at 8AM. I also back up my music to an old XP PC once a month or so, and burn my pictures to DVDs once a year or so (I don't take that many).
It's not pretty, but it works.
My Fave Food Network Shows (AOL TV)
Nov 8th 2010 4:11AM "Good Eats" is the best show on FN, and the only show worth watching on that wretched network, really.
- Guy Ferry is an immature d-bag.
- Ina Garten is an elitist snob.
- Ted Allen and Bobby Flay are insufferable.
- Tyler Florence could make someone in the midst of a three day meth binge fall asleep.
- "$40 a Day" hasn't been on in ages, and taught a generation of idiots how to be bad tippers.
- "Emeril Live" isn't on anymore, either... although he was one of the few actual CHEFS on FN, along with Mario Batali, who they also ran off.
- Giada is cute, but drives me nuts with her over the top faux-Italian pronunciations.
There's a reason all the "cool people" have ditched FN for the Cooking Channel, and this list is a good reason why.
Ask Mo: Answering Your Queries on 'Caprica,' 'Chuck,' 'Walking Dead' and More (AOL TV)
Nov 3rd 2010 2:58AM Seriously...no "Life on Mars" or "Ashes to Ashes" on your list of best Brit TV shows? No "Kingdom" or "Spooks" or "Cracker" or "The Fixer" or "Five Days"?? Your list of five shows has three which were made before 1995; they've made new shows in the UK since then.
And I think you're badly mistaken about few Americans being "aware that U.K. programs are cut to fit U.S. running times". That's actually the number one complaint I hear from people who watch BBCA. I even wonder if BBCA isn't shooting themselves in the foot with this policy. Most everyone I know under the age of 40 that has an interest in British TV will either download the shows illegally or order them on DVD, because they don't want to wait six months (or more, or ever) for BBCA to air their hacked-up versions.
FWIW, most Americans I know think that there are no commercials AT ALL on British television. Most seem disappointed when they find that every network aside from the Beeb has PLENTY of ads.
Top-Selling Candy From Around the World (Slashfood)
Oct 28th 2010 3:53PM Ummmm... Yorkie have always been targeted at men. They've had the "no for girls" slogan for almost 10 years now. I'm not British, I don't have a food blog, but even I knew that.
'Luther' Premiere Review: A Rogue London Cop with a 'Wire' Connection (AOL TV)
Oct 15th 2010 12:16AM "One final note: Each episode of 'Luther' is 50 minutes or more, and I'm happy to report that BBC America is not cutting the episodes to fit into an hourlong slot."
HOORAY! Too bad I watched this show via Bittorrent back when it aired in the UK, like 90% of the rest of the people who wanted to watch this show.
'30 Rock' Live Episode Recap (VIDEO) (AOL TV)
Oct 15th 2010 12:14AM I thought Baldwin's line was "Yes, but HIS penis was smaller", meaning the younger guy might have been hotter... but Jack was more... endowed.
'The Office' Season 7, Episode 1 (Premiere) Recap (VIDEO) (AOL TV)
Sep 24th 2010 1:54AM Gee, Joel... do you even LIKE the show? Judging from your tone and choice of adjectives, you don't. So why bother reviewing the show? Can't you find someone who actually LIKES it to review it?
I mean, I love The Office, and am not above criticizing it, but it's like you HATE the show or something.
PureText lets you copy formatted text and paste it back as plain text (Download Squad)
Jul 26th 2010 2:00PM If you use Firefox, the "Extended Copy Menu" extension works even better. It adds "Copy as Plain Text" and "Copy as HTML" options to the context menu. Of course, this app apparently works anywhere in Windows, while ECM only works in FF. But 99% of the time, when I want to copy something without formatting, it's from the web.

Confession: I Don't Like 'Mad Men' (AOL TV)
Jul 21st 2010 3:11PM I KNEW I didn't like you.
Idris Elba Drama 'Luther' to Air on BBC America (AOL TV)
Jun 10th 2010 1:12PM Yeah... it's a really good show, absolutely worth watching. Of course, BBCA will probably cut 15 minutes off each episode instead of making each episode 75 minutes with show + commercials... which is why I get my Brit TV off the Internet and not BBCA.
