Farewell, Internet (Download Squad)

Apr 12th 2011 1:10PM Outrageous!
Hope you guys do great but AOL et al obviously suck big time, or are so broke that getting up in the morning must be a drag for them! I hope so.

Adobe Lightroom 3.4 RC now available at Adobe Labs (get Lightroom for free) (Download Squad)

Mar 13th 2011 8:57AM Installed on Win 7. Looks like a normal install, I did have a licensed 3.3 installed and it left that intact.

Android launcher showdown: LauncherPro, ADW, Zeam, GO Launcher and QuickDesk (Download Squad)

Jan 29th 2011 1:57AM Tried LauncherPro and ADW and got lost in complexity confusion and crashes. Gave up on launchers.
Gave Go Launcher Ex a go without really realizing what I was doing. Configured it easily, genuinely enjoyed configuring it (nothing really to learn) - it is fast, stable and I've got a lean and clean set up. Highly recommended - love the folders, the sliding home dock, the apps pages.

Opera Mobile landing in Android Market soon -- with hardware acceleration! (Download Squad)

Oct 15th 2010 1:54AM This is a lazy article taken from a press release. Shame.
No release date - "soon"? - what is that?
And what exactly is "hardware acceleration" when it comes to Android? and what if any difference will it/can it make?
Any critique?

Screenshot Tour: free Comodo Time Machine lets you roll back your whole system (Download Squad)

May 10th 2010 12:13PM Oh and thanx to blaszta - it should be noted CTM does NOT work with dual boot Windows/Linux setups. Also some people are reporting problems with their partition table and MBR, all fixable - but if this all sounds like double dutch I'd stay away.

May 10th 2010 12:02PM Your "Comodo Time Machine" link is borked.
I think it is worth saying that this doesn't do a clone or ghost operation - so it is not for a hard drive crash restore - so Paragon HDM or Acronis TrueImage would still be required do do that. Microsoft used to have something similar which did an automatic restore wiping everything changed before a reboot - great for IT Classes and the like - but they stopped development - this is similar and more flexible.

I've not had great success with System Restore so this is worth a try, console at boot is great.

Operetta Advance theme makes Firefox look like Opera 10 (Download Squad)

Feb 6th 2010 6:59AM er ... doesn't your FF have those things already? I like a dark theme and use Black Stratini ( a variation on Strata - the default) which makes everything, well, teeny (get it huh?), but I think there's a light Stratini (
No you are right - doesn't do tab grouping - but what do you use that for?

Screenpresso is the zen master of screenshot apps (Download Squad)

Jan 29th 2010 8:09AM I tried Screenpresso - instant uninstall - awkward UI - and frankly most of the capture programs will save automatically somewhere - certainly Snagit does and the Snagit editor is absolutely stunning - does things no other image editor will do.
But really a capture program which won't capture a scrolling webpage (or any other scrolling page) is dead in the water for me. FastStone does it expertly and SnagIt does too.
AND having used Snagit for yonks I just discovered it will capture and save all the images and just the images on a wb page - to any depth you like. WOW.

What apps have changed the way you work this year? (Download Squad)

Jan 1st 2010 6:55AM Windows 7 (RC): Lets not forget that Redmond gave me a great OS which I actively love (well poetic licence) for FREE for a year (more when you count the Beta) - so not only did it change the way I work, it changed the way I feel about MS!

MSE: it's set on auto. I never think about it. It's light, it works, it's free. Well done MS.

MS Office 10 - they gave that to me too! (for a year). Its great, the print dialog alone is fantastic. Sorry Open Office but Office 10 has won me over, it feels new, modern, well considered from top to bottom. No downside (well saving the bucks is hard!)

LastPass password manager. Top Stuff, not perfect, took a while to trust it but cross platform/cross browsers/cross locations - it has changed things for me.

uTorrent Turbo Booster. Don't know how it works and its not terrific all the time and its not free but it can find and link with a bunch of peers like magic and at least double the speed of some torrent downloads.

Paragon BackUp and Recovery 10 Free Edition - throw all the others out, if you want to clone your OS (and you should) and then want to update that clone incrementally there is NO other free tool as safe, powerful and reliable as this and unlike another paid solution this works flawlessly with Win 7.

All the rest are old hat but the stand outs are: Everything, AIMP, RevoUninstaller.
