BBC iPlayer to go international in 2011, shows could cost up to $10 (Download Squad)

Nov 10th 2010 7:27AM The BBC already sell content and have been for ages. Domestically, they sell programmes on DVD/CD, magazines and books. Content is shown internationally on advert-carrying channels such as BBC America, and I think they sell DVDs etc internationally too. So downloadables isn't any different.

All the profits of BBC Worldwide (about £100m per year) go back into producing content anyway... Better that than an increase on your licence fee, yeah?

Five things average users will love about Internet Explorer 9 (Download Squad)

Sep 17th 2010 7:19AM "At last, there will be no more "I typed teamviewer.com in the box, and all I see is a Google page with a bunch of writing!""

Wrong! A large percentage of my customers don't realise the address bar exists - they have Google as their homepage and just type the web address in there... I usually now get customers to press Windows+R to get the Run dialog, so there's no distractions - just one edit box and an OK button.

75% of people use their email passwords on Facebook, study says (Download Squad)

Aug 18th 2010 12:26PM Then if someone comes across your Lastpass password, they know em all... :)

OnTopReplica lets you put a section of any window always-on-top (Download Squad)

Jun 22nd 2010 12:24PM I use it to watch installation progress bars go by on boring TeamViewer sessions, so I can read the internets at the same time. :)

Symantec release 2010 Norton security products (Download Squad)

Sep 14th 2009 12:26PM I've never heard of any Symantec product polarising opinion. Everyone I know hates Norton just as much as the next person. And everyone who has it only has it because it was bundled with their PC...

Spotted Dick & Other Foods That Sound Dirty But Aren't (Slashfood)

Oct 25th 2008 5:35PM I'm English and Spotted Dick never fails to make me giggle like a schoolgirl... But bangers and mash? Naww, that's not dirty. Maybe we're just used to the name, but sausages can be quite innocently called bangers, and mash is, well, mash potato.

Japan's AMEDIA shows off 18 new devices for the visually impaired (Engadget)

Jan 3rd 2008 8:37AM I'm in the visual impairment technology industry, and there are already many refreshable braille displays and Windows Mobile-based PDAs for blind users on the market and have been for some time. The braille display shown there looks pretty clunky and un-ergonomic. The "Color Talk" sounds pretty interesting though..
