Password management that doesn't suck - Ask DLS (Download Squad)
Jan 5th 2007 5:06AM Actually I get by just fine without any password manager.
I "generate" passwords through a process I call "Indian 1337" :), which goes likes this:
1. The Indian part: I pick something that happened recently. for example. Let's say my password at work just expired and I need to replace it. And let's say someone brought home-made brownies to work. So "brownies" is my starting point (good 8 letter word without repetition).
2. The 1337 part: obfuscate that word using 1337, which are fairly easy to remember. so "brownies" turns into "Br0wn1e5" (it's a zero, not an 'o'), et voilĂ ! a hard password that's easy to remember.
For all sorts of web-mail accounts I rarely use I re-use passwords to keep the password count manageable. And I never use any "remember my password" feature - or else I'll forget them :).

2. Is there an English version? All the screenshots are in German too.
