Jan 2nd 2008 4:28AM good, I have finally worked out this user system :), you should have a link to the profile of the person that is using the computer somewhere clear and easy to find, so that they can remember the URL (or more so the don't have to remember it) and so they don't have to go through and find their last comment just so they can find a link to their profile. :) not too important, but it would really help keeping track of comments, and it Does help, (not complaining just suggesting :).

and My avatars too small :( I made my own on wich displays lots of different major softwares and computer organisations in a nice little loop :) but it is too hard to see :(

Dec 24th 2007 10:21PM very true. I was not desperate to get an invitation, but If it happened they were available I would have gotten one to see what it was all about and if it was actually useful in anyway. As of yet i am still unsure as to it's use, and you are very right I believe in saying it is a passing fad. :) Merry Christmas

Dec 20th 2007 8:49AM you misunderstand me. I did not make it very clear and I apologies for that, but your post has put the word I wanted right into my mouth, or in this case, comment.

You said that "The IT staff works hard to prepare the systems, keep them running smoothly, keep them updated". My comment was getting at the fact that this is not being done to the best extent, my comment was based around the prohibition of Firefox, not so much the actual case, and I was not suggesting he take this to court, that would be completely stupid. My reference to the court was that policy is continually changing, which gets back to my point; Firefox is "reportedly" safer than Internet Explorer, and as an added bonus it is free. if this is the case then clearly the IT department is not keeping things UP TO DATE. and the policy is hindering the progress of the IT department. your perception of my post saying he was anarchistic and thus should take the problem to court was a misunderstanding, as I previously noted, courts promote change in policy because they MAKE us take into consideration situations that we would normally shun. this boy has brought up a situation which was shunned and for it he was detained, the law is important, but circumstance should be adressed with just as much vigor. The circumstance being that Internet Explorer was not as sufficient or insufficient compared to Mozilla Firefox, and yet rather than noting that and adressing it with a change of policy (obviously not instantly but in the future if things were done efficiently) the problem, as I have noted above, was shunned with a simple detention. The fact that this is being addressed with such vigor by so many should provide you proof that the "problem"(as some may refer to it) is not small. Nothing is ever changed without revolution, when policy is changed it is because someone revolts against the current policy, in the same way this is a minor revolution waiting to happen (not physically of course).

your final proof that this will hopefully lead to a much needed though in retrospect, minor change, is this (if I can word it properly)

I Live In Australia (the big place in the Souther Hemisphere where everyone rides kangaroos to school)

and we are faced with the same problem, the policy needs to change.

Oh, by the way, just because the education system is not a democracy, does not mean that every objection is a fight for power by a melodramatic teen. sometimes things do need to change and authority cnnot always be right. You all went to school once (hopefully) and you know that the system is not perfect, it is far from it and sometime it needs a nudge.

Dec 19th 2007 10:44PM I disagree, he should not be punished for using firefox (I am not adressing any thing else he did. But this article says "if he is not permitted to use certain software based on district policy, then he should be disciplined. "

That is completely wrong, The lasw, and policy is set down as a guideline that should be followed but most certainly will change. If it weren't for people saying "this policy is stupid" and "you cannot punish me if i have not done anything wrong just because policy says it is wrong" we would still be in the dark ages. That student should NOT be punished, the policy should be changed to be more reasonable.

change won't happen if people sit back and take their punishment, what do you think the courts are for.
