Gadling Audio Slideshow: Newfoundland Part I (Gadling)

Jul 26th 2006 11:12AM Willy,
Newfoundland can indeed be cold in the winter but I found it extremely pleasant the time I was there (the end of May 2005). A light jacket was sometimes needed, but mostly I just kept it in the car to have it near. I really enjoyed my time in St. John's, the people are friendly and the town is very nice. I have some great photos from my trip if anyone would like to see them: Newfoundland 2005 (my favorite one is titled "Newfoundland 2005: Cape Spear Lighthouse 03", I had a 13x19" print made and hung it on my wall at home.

I second what's being said Erik, I think the video was very nicely done, even with the "cheesy" music.

More dairy farmers going organic (Slashfood)

Jun 19th 2006 6:14PM You can buy organic milk in skim, 1%, 2%, all the same as "regular" milk. I buy skim organic all the time...

Bypassing the Wand and other Security Hassles (Gadling)

May 22nd 2006 11:23AM Actually it's not worth the dinero, it's a horrible idea. Bruce Schneier has written several bits on *why* it is wrong, here's a link to one of them: http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2006/02/privatizing_reg.html

This won't actually make anyone safer (like most of what the "airport security" programs claim to do), and will lead to increased hassle for those of us who do fly a lot and won't pay some private company to promise we are actually good people.

DIY cuisine: shabu shabu (Slashfood)

Apr 2nd 2006 9:11PM Is it Japanese? The first time I had it was in Taiwan and was told it was a local "working man's lunch". I was happy to find it in the Block at Orange, but it was much more expensive there than it was in Taipei!

Dragon's beard candy (Slashfood)

Nov 10th 2005 5:04PM I've been a big fan of dragon's beard candy since I first had it in South Korea several years ago. I am shocked at the prices though, since there I purchased a box of 12 pieces for about $2US. I also found it in Montreal where a box of 6 pieces ran me $1.50 Canadian. Maybe I should setup an export business from there!

Photocopier: Scanning directly to your printer (Download Squad)

Oct 26th 2005 11:50AM Another good (and free) one to look into is iCarbon ( http://www.idev.ch/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=76&Itemid=54 ). I've been using this for a while, combined with one of the free PDF Printer Drivers it will scan straight into a PDF which can be handy.
