Deeply sad news: world of blogging has lost a great writer & friend (Download Squad)

Dec 10th 2007 2:31PM Thanks for posting this. Marc was a major booster of Download Squad when we first launched the site, and contributed tips, posts -- and morale. I only got to meet him once -- at the WINstock event shortly after WIN was acquired by AOL -- and now I'm saddened that we won't ever get to meet again. He was a unique presence, online and off, and will be sorely missed.

Having a great time in NYC--see folks at drinks tonight @ 6:30pm (The Jason Calacanis Weblog)

Dec 1st 2006 4:31PM Wish I could join you, Jason. Won't be able to make it into Manhattan, though (the downside of working in Westchester). Hope to make it next time, though -- especially if it's on Nick's dime!

Yes, it's true... I'm leaving AOL. (The Jason Calacanis Weblog)

Nov 17th 2006 11:55AM Good luck, Jason. I had a great time working with you at WIN, and I think you've done an amazing job with Netscape. Here's hoping AOL doesn't mess things up (of course, I'm sure you're going to poach C.K., and then all bets are off for Netscape).

Readers Sound Off: The best Linux distro ever (Download Squad)

Sep 18th 2006 1:39PM I've been pretty impressed with Ubuntu, though I'd have to agree with Bill that there's room for more than one distro, depending on your needs. Slax is great if you want to run Linux from a thumbdrive, and it really does run smoothly on older machines, something that can't be said for all distros.

The Magritte laser-etched Apple (Engadget)

Jun 29th 2006 8:34AM Truly inspired! Almost makes me want a PowerBook. What's next? The American Standard Duchamp model? Man Ray eyedrops? Sweet!

Old Books as iPod cases (TUAW.com)

Dec 15th 2005 10:06AM Excellent idea. Love the fact that it includes a library card slot. But, yeah, you can definitely make your own for a lot less than $70!

Gift Guide: Flickr Pro - Give the gift of photo sharing (Download Squad)

Dec 14th 2005 11:20AM Download Squad doesn't accept any freebies (other than products that are free to everyone, of course)! The purpose of our gift guide is to recommend products that we think would make great gifts this holiday season. Please feel free to disagree with us, and post your opinions in the comments. But please also rest assured that we base our opinions solely on what we think of the products we write about, and our opinions are NOT for sale.

Record label shuts down pearLyrics app (Download Squad)

Dec 7th 2005 1:29PM Thanks for the clarification on Warner/Chappell. I think it doesn't change things, though. The lyrics are out there on the net, and all PearLyrics did was make searching for them easier. If they want to go after someone for copyright violations, they should be shutting down the sites that host the lyrics, not developers of tools that make it easier to find them.

Microsoft Student 2006 reviewed at Office Weblog (Download Squad)

Dec 6th 2005 5:55PM Doh! Expedia used to be a Microsoft property, and I somehow conflated the two! Fixed!

Gtalkr: Google Talk on the web (Download Squad)

Dec 1st 2005 9:33PM Yes, you're right about Meebo. But its support for GTalk is via Jabber. GTalkr is the first dedicated web client designed specifically for Google Talk.
