HOWTO: Connect Your Mac Mini to a TV (TUAW.com)

Mar 21st 2007 9:42AM Front Row plays Divx. Just download the divx plugin for quicktime. and you're good.

Do you watch video on your iPod? (TUAW.com)

Nov 22nd 2006 12:20PM I don't watch video on the ipod. when i travel, i'll probably try it out, but the video i've watched killed my battery so fast i'd need to get an airline adapter and car charger to see it really working as intended. also, video size is too small, especially with a fiance that likes her spanish subtitles.

(that last part was a tiny little joke - get it? subtitles, ipod? haha. no?! ok...)

Switching from NetNewsWire to Google Reader (TUAW.com)

Oct 8th 2006 10:25PM I agree with Milevin. gReader is way to slow, i see way too much of the not-so-cute google labs green beaker logo. And the ui is too cluttered with non-essential tools. give me simple. give me bloglines.

Concrete iPhone info? (TUAW.com)

Sep 14th 2006 11:24AM this can't be the new iphone. even if it is an artist's rendering. I think it's doubtful that apple would design an ipod with the scroll wheel towards the bottom of the face of the unit. Ergonomically, this thing would be very hard to use with one hand. Think about holding this in your hand. i could be wrong, but i don't think this is quite it. why not switch out the scroll wheel for a keypad and have the scroll wheel be a digital version on the touch screen?

Oh and I agree with Bill I, a weird valley between the screen and wheel would be, well, weird.

Ask TUAW: What's your favorite Smart Playlist? (TUAW.com)

Aug 17th 2006 12:38PM - 5 Stars / 6 months
songs that have 5 stars that were added in the last 6 months. the best and newest.

- most recently added
- most recently played
- most played

these three together, each playlist set at 5 gigs max, make sure that I have playlists of the music I've been listening to regularly in the short and long term and the music that i've most recently added, but may have forgotten about with a big library of music.

Supposed Leopard at PowerPage (TUAW.com)

Aug 4th 2006 12:04PM "..but if it is it looks like Leopard will rock..."

Will rock? If these are the features, i'm pretty under-whelmed. these are all good updates to existing features, but we're not seeing anything very groundbreaking. anything that Vista hasn't already ripped off. where's the fireworks? sure, these new "features" will cut seconds and possibly minutes off existing tasks (and I'm always thankful for that), but these "features" don't allow you to do anything spectacularly new with your mac. Not trying to be negative, flamers, just trying to be honest. if this is the feature set, i'd say it's more like Tiger Redux, then a full point increase.

Let's hope Apple has just a little bit more ingenuity stuck up their collective sleeve.

Free Tech Support: How can I share files between a Mac and a Windows PC? (Download Squad)

Oct 4th 2005 5:04PM Hi Guys, great idea! but your directions were a bit overly simple. this may work for a wired home network but I'd suspect that most home networks are actually wireless. and despite security issues, most people are probably trying to share files over a wireless network and failing miserably. Maybe this should be your next mini-tutorial. Also, pc and mac printer sharing over wireless network. whoa that's a tough one.

Quirks of the new .Mac Groups feature (TUAW.com)

Sep 23rd 2005 7:07PM yes, let's talk about how far .mac has come. um, nowhere in 4 years?! i think we've been waiting for an easy way to blog from our desktop to .mac for what? at least 3 years now. iDisk? great for backups but flaky as hell. does anyone actually use it for hard drive space? hmmm. I think the people running .mac need a coffee enema. they need to start looking at the 2.0 web services like Flickr, TypePad, Basecamp, etc.. and instead of trying to be "most things to most people", try to enhance the mac experience by allowing us to tie up our online lives with .mac. sure uploading my pics straight from iPhoto is a great thing, but once you've uploaded them, the web interface is so clunky it's not even worth it. why not redesign the interface for people that actually use photos. and while they're at it, use the Flickr API to bring my Flickr images into my .mac template pages. instead of locking my iLife content up in .mac's interface ghetto, give me tools to get it out there and let it interact with other 2.0 services. I don't know, we'll see how .mac groups goes, I'll go over and make myself a group for a project i'm working on, but as far as I'm concerned, dot mac needs a dot overhaul and you can see that by it's adoption rate. if nothing else, make it easier to use.

Criticizing Steve Jobs and the Apple Mafia (TUAW.com)

Aug 22nd 2005 12:00PM i still understand the bow-tie. Is this guy Tucker Carlson's pops or what? was he having a momentary throwback to his southern baptist roots?
