BlackBerry Torch review (Engadget)

Aug 7th 2010 2:20PM @daedone You're making some serious assumptions here.
One: You assume that Android/iOS/webOS devices aren't stable, and that BB devices are.
Two: You say that the screen won't produce the "jaggies" like shown in this "low-res" (which it isn't; another mis-assumption), but you don't address the obvious problems of text jag. The difference between text from 480x320 to something like 800x600 is VERY noticeable.
Three: iX's are faster with a lower clock speed because they're quad-core. Having two more cores than a faster clocked dual-core will no doubt make the quad-core faster (since it can handle loads better). In the game of single-core mobile processors, clock speed is king.

My own personal addition: The Torch was ok, but it wasn't good enough. RIM needed to absolutely blow our socks off, and they didn't do it. If the phone can last for a day on one charge, that's good enough for a smartphone. Higher battery life isn't a "killer" feature; it's merely a convenience. Messaging is great, but the others have caught up. iOS, Android, and webOS all offer great messaging paradigms that can match up to messaging on the BB.

Live from RIM and AT&T's BlackBerry Torch event! (Engadget)

Aug 3rd 2010 11:59AM @aluglu I think it's very unfortunate that people like to blast RIM for no real reason at all. So they've stuck with the same form factor. Has not the iPhone been a touch-screen phone for four renditions?

Why is it that the Blackberry is being nailed for being stagnant when other devices have clearly done the same (for the reasons Blackberry haters use)?

I mean, they have done some modifications to the look (like the iPhone with the touch-screen design).

BlackBerry users running out of loyalty: 50 percent plan to defect to iPhone or Android (Engadget)

Aug 2nd 2010 4:52PM 42%? Douglas Adams would be proud, RIM. Very proud. But DON'T PANIC, crackberries!

HTC Gold with Windows Phone 7 in November, and more from a rumored UK roadmap leak (Engadget)

Jul 25th 2010 5:28PM @BrookLynnsFinest Well, it was really Microsoft's fault that Verizon treated the Kin like it did, and Microsoft should know that.

Jul 24th 2010 4:38PM @Roger Moore That's more opinion than fact, as RIM has been over 40% market share in the US for the past couple of years now.

Jul 21st 2010 4:46PM Since I'm near-sighted, and I get up to get a drink in the middle of the night without my glasses, I've been totally freaked ot by my glowing alarm clock.

Palm Pre hits 1.2GHz courtesy of SR71 Blackbird kernel, not for the faint-hearted (Engadget)

Jul 19th 2010 11:32PM Been stable so far, at normal temps (back when I was running at 1 Ghz and 800 Mhz) as well. Battery life has only taken a negligible hit.

Jul 19th 2010 11:28PM @Spaceshipped Have fun with your multitasking scheme that forces devs to adjust instead of having the OS adjust to devs. iOS is only so fast because of GPU acceleration.

Concept 'HTC 1' is the phone we wish HTC would make (Engadget)

Jul 12th 2010 3:24PM Anything is possible with Photoshop and an imagination.

Take, for example, a childhood sketch of a snow fort (or whatever); inexplicably convoluted and intricate, as well as beautiful (in our minds).

But it never happened.

This might never happen.

Microsoft does concepts like these all the time, but they never come to fruition (Surface? Courier?). So we shouldn't get our hopes up.
