Ask Engadget: What's the most reliable wireless router? (Engadget)

Nov 12th 2008 12:10AM Always used the WRT54G. I have a vintage v1.1 and it's solid. I tried DD-WRT but I must have been using a wrong version. Couldn't get it to work right. So, I'm using Hyperwrt 2.1b1 + Thibor15c which has been working amazingly.

Windows XP SP3 released to manufacturers (Download Squad)

Apr 22nd 2008 2:41PM Thanx for the info on the RC version. So, I guess the question still remains "is the RC version the same as the final release in this case"? Why update if it turns out to be an outdated version. Anyone have the answer to this?

ClipX: Clipboard history manager for Windows (Download Squad)

Apr 4th 2008 4:15PM There's only one clipboard application that's worth the time. It's not freeware, but very cheap for what you get. Clipmate! Been using it forever.

Windows Search 4.0 vs. Google Desktop 5.5 (Download Squad)

Apr 1st 2008 11:21PM Hi,
Thanx for your reply. I respectfully disagree with your view that 1) Copernic limits the indexing of the content of files. I'm sure there's some limit, but it's not really a comparable issue to the one I'm raising about Google search. 2) I grant that most documents will be shorter and this won't be an issue. However, I'm working on larger documents and this is a deal breaker for me for sure, and I'm sure I'm not alone. Anyhow, I think most who've tried Copernic prefer it. WDS has a long way to go still before it's close to the stability, usability, and conservative resource use of Copernic.

Mar 31st 2008 11:04PM Copernic for sure. Google only indexes the first 10,000 words of a document if it figures there's enough space in the index file. Forget it. Previous versions of MS search tanked my cpu big time, and I had problems indexing pdf files. I was told that I needed to install Acrobat 8. No thanx!

Mar 18th 2008 9:37PM It's high school humour. I find it funny that people think that something offensive is offensive to the person seeing it. I'm not personally offended by this stuff (like my tender religious eyes or something), but the guy is bloody offensive; I don't find making fun of women who aren't 20 anymore actually funny. It's just plain old bad form. It looks like LifeHacker is doing the right thing and dropping this cr*p from their lineup after the last hideous and vicious clip in which Donny cuts up a woman for having wrinkles, blotches and bad teeth. Only when you're in your 20's does it seem that you will never get old. I've got some very very bad news for you.

Fix or remove Windows AutoPlay with CleanHandlers (Download Squad)

Feb 27th 2008 5:52PM I suppose my comment was a bit cryptic. :) The devil is in the details. It sounds more complicated than it is in TweakUI. It's definitely a addon you will not want to live without. But is it compatible with Vista? Not. Dealing with autorun issues is natively easier in Vista. Definitely don't install anything extra to do this. Just follow these instructions: hit the windows key, type "autoplay" into the search bar (no quotes), now just change software to "take no action". Do the same for any other media types you want.

Feb 27th 2008 2:18PM Just use TweakUI. It does this and much more.
