'Kick-Ass' Teen Choice Award Nominations Cap Off an R-Rated Ballot (Cinematical)

Jun 15th 2010 10:53AM 17, 18 and 19 are all teenage years.

'Splice,' and the Line Between Spoilers and Public Service (Cinematical)

Jun 9th 2010 2:22AM I had a similar problem with reviewing 'Remember Me.' I found the ending morally reprehensible and railed against it... but since I refused to specify exactly what the ending was, I ended up just creating curiosity and my bad review sold it some tickets.

Real-Life Girl from 'Finding Amanda' Sues Writer-Director Uncle (Cinematical)

Jun 5th 2010 10:50AM "won't suing draw even more attention to it?"

That's the sort of logic blackmailers count on.

'Hurt Locker' Producer Officially Joins These 5 Self-Damaging Plaintiffs (Cinematical)

Jun 2nd 2010 10:29AM Other than that band, were any of these plaintiffs actually damaged by their lawsuits?

Shia LaBeouf Turns on 'Indy 4'... But Why? (Cinematical)

May 17th 2010 12:18PM "When a treasured movie series is laid to rest, and decades later is given a sequel, fans usually are very forgiving as they are thankful to have any new entry at all. They so desperately want one more new moment of a fedora, or a lightsaber, that they welcome anything with open arms."

Has that ever actually happened? Usually the fanboys are the ones that hate the new incarnations the most. Visit a few James Bond websites when the next Bond actor is chosen, and you'll see what I mean.

Will 'Machete' Cause a Race War? (Cinematical)

May 14th 2010 12:05PM I'm glad someone's remembering the Birth of a Nation riots.

Lincoln gave Uncle Tom's Cabin partial credit for kicking off the Civil War. I think the potential is there and the right sort of divisive film that grossly offends a large segment of the population at the right time could trigger anything.

Which Oscar Movies Do You Have Left on Your List? (Cinematical)

Feb 5th 2010 1:02PM I always see the Best Picture noms before the Oscars, but this year (ironically) was the closest I've gotten to seeing them all before the nominations were announced.

Damn you, distributors of Serious Man!

The 82nd Academy Award Nominations! (Cinematical)

Feb 2nd 2010 8:49AM Just watched it live... The Blind Side surprised me enough that I glazed over the other nominees.

Weekend Box Office: 'Avatar' Creeps Up on All-Time Highs (Cinematical)

Jan 25th 2010 12:41PM Shouldn't they both be "irrelevant," seeing as how gross is subject to inflation and how there are more than twice as many people in the domestic market now than in 1939?

Both measurements are imperfect, but I don't understand why we have to choose one or the other. It's like batting average v. home runs. Each record tells a story.

Box Office: Bottom Line or Butts In Seats? (Cinematical)

Jan 12th 2010 11:38AM There were also a lot few people in 1939.

Adjusting for inflation isn't perfect, but it makes comparisons at least relevant. If you look at the all-time list ( http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adjusted.htm?adjust_yr=1&p=.htm ) you don't see a lot of clustering to earlier decades. Being released in 1939 doesn't seem to provide much of an advantage.
