Did Motorola's agency 'borrow' Super Bowl ad concept? (TUAW.com)

Feb 14th 2011 11:01AM I have to agree with Matt and Ian. Yes, there's obviously a similar theme--that wrapping ourselves up in our own personal worlds via iPods/iPhones/etc. are causing a loss of social interaction--but again, that's hardly a new concept.

For that matter, Microsoft did a better job of this with their own recent Windows 7 Phone ad than Motorola did:

Does Apple want to buy Facebook? (TUAW.com)

Oct 19th 2010 9:16AM Having said that, I'd think Adobe would make a much more likely buyout target for Apple than Facebook (if only to prevent Microsoft from buying 'em out instead, as was recently rumored). Lord knows Adobe's products have lost their way and could use a major overhaul.

Does Apple want to buy Facebook? (TUAW.com)

Oct 19th 2010 9:14AM "Apple acquiring Burger King makes sense because Burger King doesn't compete w/Apple in any significant way, and Burger King is something that Apple couldn't compete with even if it wanted to. Plus, Burger King is already competing with McDonalds, "which has to make Jobs like it even more."

Snark aside, the point is that this is pure, pulled-from-his-ass speculation. Could Jobs want to buy out Facebook? Of course, but the reasoning is flawed at best, especially considering that Apple has been hoarding money for *years* now, since well before Facebook even existed. It was clear how quickly Facebook was growing 2-3 years ago; *that* would've been the time for Apple to make their move if they wanted to buy 'em out, I'd think.

Kindle ad goes on the offensive against the iPad (TUAW.com)

Sep 21st 2010 9:32AM I'm more curious as to why the hell someone would pay $140+ for a pair of sunglasses?

A quick tutorial on how to read PDF-formatted ebooks in iBooks (TUAW.com)

Aug 5th 2010 9:06AM Um...is it really a wise idea to put the words "Max" and "Pad" in such close proximity?

sorry, couldn't resist.

Quicken Essentials adds features, drops price (TUAW.com)

Apr 23rd 2010 2:44PM As an early buyer, I welcome this move, although I'm still concerned about a couple of other key features, including the ability to chart income, expenses, net worth and so forth across *any* time period.

The notice (which I received by email today) says that one of the free updates will be the ability to "track budgets across several months", but that doesn't sound like what I'm talking about.

Then again, perhaps that's where the "export to spreadsheet" part comes in? Are they saying that you can't run timeline charts/graphs from within Quicken?

promising but confusing.

Photoshop CS3 and Snow Leopard. Yea or nea? (TUAW.com)

Aug 27th 2009 1:25PM "Nack has now posted an update after investigating the CS3 situation in which he reveals that Adobe and Apple actually did do extensive testing of at least Photoshop CS3 on Snow Leopard and found that it is in fact compatible with the new operating system."

OK, let me get this straight: This guy's specific job title is "Principal Product Manager for Photoshop" and he didn't know, until yesterday, whether Photoshop (Adobe's flagship product) was compatible with a major OS upgrade which has been announced and in development for over a year now??

Give me a break.

Leopard: now with 100% less Classic (TUAW.com)

Oct 25th 2007 3:37PM I still use Classic for two programs: VSE BeFound (a search engine optimization & submission tool) and, occasionally, the awesome 2-D D&D-style game Realmz by Fantasoft.

Unfortunately, neither one has an OS X port, although there's a group of volunteer programmers who are supposedly working on an OS X build of Realmz (I'll believe it when I see it).

CE-Oh no he didn't! Part XLV: Amiga head says new AmigaOS 5 "better than OS X" (Engadget)

Oct 7th 2007 1:50PM @ezraf1:

I'm the webmaster for http://www.systemshootouts.org/ , the site that Argot linked to for the Apple market share figures/graphs.

Now, I'm definitely a Mac guy (in fact, most criticism of the site claims that it has a Mac bias), but those numbers are accurate--they represent the REAL WORLD quarterly personal computer sales of the various companies and of the industry as a whole. Apple's sales figures come directly from Apple; the rest of the figures (including the total PCs sold each quarter) come from either IDG or Gartner Group, two of the most respected market research corporations in the world.

The fact is that YES, Mac sales have been on a tear over the past few years, and YES, they are slowly, steadily increasing their market share. However, it's also true that this number is starting from a very low point--around 3% as of last quarter. This isn't a bad thing, however; it just means that they have plenty of potential upside (as opposed to Microsoft, which essentially plateaued after XP came out).

Now, you can certainly argue that Apple's U.S. market share (which is considerably higher) is more important, but that's a different discussion. It depends entirely on the context of the point you're trying to make. In terms of total, overall, global market share, however, they're at around 3% at the moment.

Gateway finally catches Mac 20th anniversary edition (TUAW.com)

Sep 29th 2007 9:07PM FWIW, here's a detailed head-to-head comparison of the iMac and the Gateway One:
