Why is Blizzard still OK with gender inequality in World of Warcraft? (WoW)

Apr 3rd 2012 4:33PM I am more likely to upvote you because of the torture of seeing your mom's character running around in a bikini.

Ok, not really.

While the chainmail bikini thing does bother me a little bit (it would be nice if there was an option for style under a menu. TF2 has ripped off so much from WoW, why not take a page out of it's book? Allow a "style" option for each piece that has multiple looks) the thing is, is Blizzard is still mostly staffed at the higher end by guys who think the whole "chick in a metal bikini" thing is like the best thing ever. The option to wear the equipment like you want should be an option.

Now, I love Blizzard, and I like alot of the guys that are there (faction bias notwithstanding) but when new artwork or concepts, or content comes out, I sometimes get disappointed when yet again something is stripped down to "hot chick in skimpy fantasy wear."

I am a guy, I like women in skimpy outfits (in general, not just in the game, in fact, some of my female characters I actually avoided the equipment that did that), but there is a time and a place, and not every single character should be dressed like that.

As someone else said on a similiar topic about plate bikinis, there are much worse examples out there. TERA has female characters in what looks literally like dental floss and saran wrap. Oh, and breast sizes larger than anything in WoW. Like, if I had to guess, DDD.

Apr 2nd 2012 12:26PM That's been there since that new guide was put up (i.e. years ago) so it's not an April Fool's.

This is the most bizarre and entertaining Dave Kosak interview ever (WoW)

Apr 2nd 2012 2:53AM Skarn, it goes beyond just an NPC.

We were lied to directly to our face.

A player at BlizzCon asked Metzen if Ol' Blanchy would survive the Cataclysm. Metzen replied she would. She was "core", and essentially implied nothing could happen to her.

And they killed her in the 4.0.3a patch that introduced the Cataclysm (I mistakenly said 4.0.1 above.)

Apr 1st 2012 8:27PM Honestly, of all the things, Ol' Blanchy is one of the things that pisses me off the most.

We have the unequal faction questing/content. The major promises in instances and raids that went undelivered (Abyssal Maw), and Thrall essentially taking over the expansion, but Ol' Blanchy is up there with things that piss me off.

After explicitly saying she would still be alive and kicking after the Cataclysm at BlizzCon (Metzen described her as "She's core (hardcore)", day one of 4.0.1 we find out they killed her for a lame CSI parody.

The Queue: Suffer for fashion (WoW)

Mar 31st 2012 1:32PM Having an entire tree named after alcohol would probably get them nasty feedback from parents who are letting their little kids play the game.

You know, the kids that are under the minimum age listed on the box.

Sad, but true.

Mists of Pandaria Beta: New icons make questing a breeze (WoW)

Mar 30th 2012 9:41PM There was a time when I thought the sparklies over quest objectives and resource nodes made it too easy.

This, while I guess it makes it easier for some people, seems to be dumbing it down even more. Quest objectives now not only sparkle, but are marked on your minimap, pointed out to you by the game, have an exclaimation mark next to their name when you mouse over them, and have their names in red reguardless of your name plate options for NPC's.

Now they point out who you have to talk to by giving them a speech balloon, and interactible objects a gear icon?

The gear icon incidentally reminds me of the interactible icon in STO. It shows a scanning icon.

Breakfast Topic: I don't like the word 'toon' (WoW)

Mar 30th 2012 1:07PM You have the XBox Live community to thank for that. As far as I know, they started the whole "cheevos" thing, which has variants such as "cheeves."

Both annoy me. "Achives" also annoys me, but slightly less.

Mar 30th 2012 11:56AM I had never heard of it until someone on here mentioned disliking it as well.

Then I started seeing people use it.

Annoys the hell out of me.

Mar 30th 2012 11:47AM Usually, class names being shortened don't bother me. "Pally" is fine, "Drood" I see as a humorous nickname they gave themselves. "Shammy" is ok. As long as the names aren't used in a derogatory fashion.

"Pala", however, bothers me when it's used excessively. I have seen people seemingly use it exclusively when talking about the class, usually in-game or on Wowhead comments. It's technically more correct than "Pally", but trying saying it outloud over and over again. Then read someone using it multiple times.

Mar 30th 2012 11:42AM Different topic, but since you mentioned it.

I am fine with kk, even tho I know it's still the same amount of letters, and they could almost as easily type both, it doesn't bother me too much. Shortening down other words like "grats" is fine, too. "Y" starts irritating me. "Gz" makes me want to rage. What the hell is it? "Congrats" shortened down to it's absolute minimum, with the wrong letter attached at the end?

It irritates the hell out of me when someone uses cell phone speak for their entire conversation. You have a full keyboard, this isn't a cell phone number pad, use more complete sentences. Just because you are online doesn't mean you have to be lazy as hell typing. If you ask me something like "y u no giv me int u stpd mage?", it's likely I won't give it to you for both the insult, and your horrible grammar.
