Firefox 4 may not get silent updates after all (Download Squad)

Sep 14th 2010 10:57AM As much as I like it, you can't force people. The one and only thing I hate about Windows is the way it automatically restarts to install updates unless you postpone it. Even if you're in the middle of something.

Look, I really need to check my email, because someone's asking for a link and we're both in a hurry. What?!? An update?!? Seriously, this can't wait until next time I open my browser?! Um... I don't think so.

Getting people to use updated, secure browsers is very important. But it needs to be convenient too.

Grooveshark yanked from App Store, pandas everywhere made sad (Download Squad)

Aug 18th 2010 6:27PM For god sakes, Grooveshark, leave Apple alone. Don't you know they don't like developers? Just spend your time making my Android app better.

Much appreciated.

The moodiness of the US, as told by Twitter (Engadget)

Jul 30th 2010 9:53AM Man... New York is not a happy place, is it?

Report: Google leads Bing, Yahoo!, and Twitter -- in malware distribution (Download Squad)

Jul 29th 2010 10:34PM Wow, I never thought about that. That's pretty interesting.

Boy am I glad none of this is relevant to me. I don't have any security software on my machine running an administrator account, I just have a pair of eyes and some modern common sense!

And, please... Don't anybody mention Google partnering up with any such security firm... Those klutzes couldn't do such a thing for the life of them. I trust Google's engineers can find as much of a solution as is possible. The rest is up to the measure of savvyness of the end user. As much as Avast, Avira, ESET, etc. can't protect a naive and careless user and his desktop, they couldn't do it on the internet. WOT sounds like the best idea out there, the kind of thing I'm sure is baked within Google's stack somewhere.

I hope you don't have a 5-year deal with Sprint. Last time someone struck an exclusive deal with a single carrier, it didn't work too well in their favor...

Was Zuckerberg's mysterious Facebook contract forged? (Download Squad)

Jul 24th 2010 10:17AM Whatever. Zuckerberg's too scared to put it up for IPO because it's not worth anything but "potential" at the moment. Half a billion users and revenue not even reaching a billion, with actual net profits only starting in 2009. When I see how this potential of a site can be monetized properly, this might be interesting. Bubble?

Unless this new dude can run the site to the ground, then I'll pull out the popcorn.

Usability rant: why doesn't KeePass have a Read-Only mode? (Download Squad)

Jul 24th 2010 10:02AM Hey Erez,
KeePass has a cool little tab for each entry called "History". Just open up any entry, and check the right most tab. The only way you'd get screwed is if you accidentally had a freak accident and managed to change both password entries the same way /and/ went ahead and deleted the last version under the history tab.

Now, the feature I'm missing is to somehow not have to remember the password to my KeePass database! Why is there no KeePass feature for that?

Keep safe,
XD

Jul 16th 2010 4:28PM What?!?! What if it's an exponential function, and there is no derivative = 0? You know, like the function y = x^2 where 0 < x < 5.
