Ingredient Spotlight: Gooseberries (Slashfood)
Jun 30th 2008 2:07PM Hi, greeting from Berlin where the gooseberries are just about ready to be eaten. We have several in our garden, the green ones, but also in pink and - my favorite - gooseberries in a very dark pink, almost black. I love `em and I think they are not puckery at all. Maybe your gooseberries weren't ripe yet?
A presidential asparagus lover (Slashfood)
Jun 28th 2008 12:45PM I love asparagus as much as you guys do, but I would like to point out that Bush talked about german asparagus, which is white, not green as the the picture suggests. While green asparagus is certainly great, nothing beats the much more delicate taste and texture of its white cousin.
Flipping the Linux switch: My OS is okay, your OS is okay (Download Squad)
Jun 10th 2008 6:42AM @DiRT: Sorry to say this, but it is really tiring to hear the same old stories about "missing programs" and "needing to compile" on Linux. And I simply don't buy your claim that you "really, really" want to switch. If you were really that interested, you would know all the main Linux distributions come with an abundance of prebeuild programs. Installing one in Ubuntu is as easy as: Open Synaptics (the package-manager), search for your program, klick install - and you are done. Including all future updates.
I recently got me a new computer and installed XP Pro and Ubuntu 8.04 on it. It took me 1 1/2 days to get everything the way I wanted on the XP partitions, the rest of the day was needed to do the same with Ubuntu. And while the Ubuntu part works now as expected, Windows keeps bugging me with drivers that need to be updated, and patches, and virusscanner-updates and so on. It might be different for you, but for me Windows is for play - games still don't work very well with Linux - while Linux is my work environment.
All I am saying is: If you want to stick with Windows that is very fine with me. But please stop spreading rumours about an OS you obviously know very little about.
So how are you liking Ubuntu 7.10? (Engadget)
Oct 25th 2007 4:11PM Upgraded my T42 Thinkpad a couple of weeks ago - and absolutely love it! The sound issues I had with Feisty are gone, upgrade took about 30 Minutes and everything worked out of the box. Because my Laptop is pretty old I don't get to see the the more advanced Compiz stuff, but since the Thinkpad is mainly for work, I don't mind. Plus: Gutsy boots in about 50 seconds, which is a bit faster then Feisty.
