Could a Wikipedia backed search engine take down Google? (Download Squad)

Aug 1st 2007 5:07AM "At the SMX Conference in June 2007, Google software engineer Matt Cutts explained that while he supports different approaches to search, like Mahalo, it is untrue that humans have nothing to do with Google's search results. As examples of human involvement he cited Google's use of hyperlink analysis, toolbar voting, and user reporting of spam. Cutts suggested that Google would evolve to take advantage of social media. - wikipedia"

This approach from Google seems better than the "human-edited" part of wiki search, that would only slow down the development of the search engine rather than helping.

Download Squad Q & A with 3D Mailbox creator Robert Savage (Download Squad)

Jul 24th 2007 3:48AM So what's the purpose of this program? I miss the days when programs were created for the need to solve a particular problem.

KoolWIRE: Yet another way to convert docs to PDF (Download Squad)

Jun 27th 2007 5:50AM Hmm, they don't mention anything about the size, so 10Mb must be a limit for outgoing/incoming files. So much for setting options on the pdf to be created. I'm sure they'll launch also a monthly paid service version with other options, but right now there are lot of other pdf converters.

Switching to Vista: Download Squad Switcher Podcast #3 (Download Squad)

Jun 22nd 2007 3:19AM Come on, a new Windows due out in 2009? Who believes that? That's a statement for the shareholders.

Plus don't get me started on the Vienna name. It's a brand thing, the recommendation is always to use simple words, avoiding the use of double-letters. So they won't use that for sure.

Why don't you pay for software? (Download Squad)

May 23rd 2007 7:36AM "Laziness. Why go through the trouble of clicking a Donate button, go to PayPal, enter your details and click that Checkout button even if the software works the same before/after donation? To do a good deed? It's not worth the effort unless it's a killer application."
