Engadget's recession antidote: win an 8GB Kingston SDHC Video card! (Engadget)

May 12th 2009 12:50PM Wow, a huge SDHC card? I need one of those, I really do! Yes, my camera takes SDHC (or xD -- but those are way smaller). Yes it records video. Yes, I have a card now, but muy pequeno.

Grab your BFG and play Doom in your browser - Time Waster (Download Squad)

Dec 23rd 2008 1:05PM I tried that flash version before, and: (1) it comes complete with all the secret areas (at least through level E04), (2) you could not IDKFA to get a BFG. I didn't play it through to where you could get a BFG, so maybe I mis-remember the cheat behavior. Slightly misleading title, but still fun to bask in the "good old days."

Princeton's tiny Bluetooth adapter with big 300-foot range (Engadget)

Feb 15th 2008 8:46AM Hey, this one is a whole 5mm smaller (19mm for the PTM-UBT3S, 14mm for this one). That's over 25% reduction in length.

Maybe this adapter should take some "male organ length" drugs from teh internets!

DIY hit counter rings bell to welcome each visitor (Engadget)

Dec 9th 2007 4:25PM As a regular DMI'er on drivemeinsane.com, I have had my lights, etc hooked up. After a while you don't notice the lights going on and off. :)

Rock Band gets reviewed, Guitar Hero trembles (Engadget)

Nov 19th 2007 9:44AM Wait, the summary and the article both say that the GHIII wireless guitar works. Do you know something that the reviewers don't? Have you played it, or is there another article that complains about RB not working with GH guitars?

Come on, inquiring minds want to know!

SliMouse Slim-Pad ditches the scroll wheel for a touch sensor (Engadget)

Nov 16th 2007 7:45AM I would have to assume that, like a laptop touchpad, the middle mouse button functionality is done through a tap. Or, does your software let you push and scroll at the same time? Maybe a tap and hold like a laptop touchpad?

A tap and drag would actually seem easier (and more precise?) than the scroll wheel; maybe if it gets better they'll make a wider middle area to tap and scroll for different functionality -- regular mouse movement for moving the cursor, touch sensor drag to pan?

Yahoo Mail and the little checkbox that could (Download Squad)

Nov 6th 2007 8:04AM A few points:

(1) The other nice feature of the checkbox is that the message does NOT get dumped into the lower reading pane. Nice for those stupid spams that make it through their (pretty decent but not perfect) spam filter.

(2) Speaking of need-to-add features, a way to eliminate a lot of the startup boxes like the weather would be nice. I already have a weather site that I like (and subscribe to), so I don't need to wait an extra few seconds just to tell me what the weather is right now. If I want to know the weather, I'll turn to my left and look out the window! It's either feature-bloat (yea, M$) or wowsers-look-what-we-could-add-here functionality.

(3) I, too, used the beta early on and couldn't wait to turn on the classic. I recently tried it again, and while it has not gotten (and probably will never get) as fast as the classic version, it is fast enough. Yes, the startup is slow (see #2 above), but reading mail isn't as bad as it was.

I'm a convert, and I'll stick with the "new" interface now.
