Microsoft offers all of their Visual Studio "Express" editions free -- for C++, Web Dev, C#, and VB.NET if that's your thing. You may believe they suck, but A) even most Apple devs (including me) agree that Microsoft knows how to do dev tools and B) "xcode has been free since forever" but it isn't today. You pay $4.99 through the app store or you pay $99 to be in the dev program.

The point most people are making is NOT the $5 cost. It's the point that Apple needs developers on its platform more than it needs the $5 (and in truth, it has plenty of developers for its platform today because it was free to get started).

Think before you submit.

Or... you could select the files on the right and drag them to another folder on the left. No 3rd party stuff required.

Mar 10th 2008 2:23PM Is it me or has Download Squad greatly reduces coverage of worthwhile downloads and instead gotten into the same tired "what's-happening-on-the-web" coverage as a thousand other sites?

By my count, just TWO of the last ten posts on the site (as of 11am Pacific) are a download and one of those is the Time Waster (a cool feature, IMHO). I suppose you could say THREE are downloads if you count the reference to IE8 beta's issue with Windows update.

Bring back the download pointers/reviews... please?
