iTunes video playback lackluster, at best (TUAW.com)

Jan 27th 2006 12:39AM Guys, I have the solution to this. I used to have this problem, and it drove me crazy so I did a full system reinstall. That definitely fixed ALL problems I was having with video playback. I investigated further to see if I could isolate the problem... and I *DID*. It turns out it most definitely is a plugin issue. I have identified several plugins this has a problem with, but the most signifcant is flip4mac. Especially their latest version, it just brings quicktime to its knees. I know it's all to easy to blame apple, but try it for yourself. Do a full backup and reinstall or just remove all your 3rd party plugins, and videos will work like 'butter.' Basically, screw microsoft and their crappy wma and wmv formats!!

for anyone interested, I have a 1.5Ghz powerbook G4 with 1.25Gb ram. Never had a single problem with *any* video (and I have about 100) once I cleared out the bad plugins! Someone please tell me if you can recreate this problem even with plugins removed.

Free Tech Support: How can I add a system-wide spell-checker? (Download Squad)

Oct 5th 2005 7:42AM for mac users, there is already a very nice built-in spell checker that few people know about. no it's not the dictionary app. To try this out, start typing a word then press "option-esc". You'll get a nice, slim, pop-up menu of about 50 words. Once you start to use this, it is very indispensable!! (I just used it to spell that word haha). Also, try putting the cursor over a word and press command-ctrl-D and then hold down command-ctrl as you mouse over words. you'll get real-time pop ups of dictionary entries. This is nice to check if the word you spelled is actually the right word!
