That said, yes this might be easier to teach to really dense users, but if they are that dense, well...

How To: keep your iTunes library on an external hard drive (TUAW.com)

Sep 22nd 2006 5:18PM I've been using a similar-ish setup for quick a while now; its actually the other way round, I have the library on the local drive and I've added all my music on the external drive directly using Add Folder. I did this since I wanted to be able to use iTunes in stand-alone (sans external drive) mode as well and thought that I'ld need to keep the library local. Now that I know that it will default to local when it doesn't find the external drive, I'll switch to this method. That way, I can now use the consolidate library feature.

One extra tip; I have windows and I have my external music libray directory shared and mapped as the M: drive. That way, I can change the location, or point to the backup disk without having iTunes rescan and rebuild its database; just map the new location to M: and iTunes doesn't care, its business as usual.

Aug 10th 2006 12:08PM Yes, I agree about the signing up part - I hate creating an account on sites just to check it out. Wish that all sites would do something like www.30boxes.com; they give you a fully operational demo version of their product right there on the main page of their website. Very professional IMHO. Also, I wish all sites would give you a way to DELETE your account if you would like to. Sorry this if kinda off-topic.

BTW, I don't know if they updated their site after this post was originally published but they have an excellent slideshow right there which shows you some if their product's main features. That's even better than a written piece I would think.

AOL Pictures goes AJAX, opens up to non-members (Download Squad)

Nov 18th 2005 1:37PM Just tried to take AOL pictures but it fell on its face in about 3 seconds. I tried to create an album but that needs you to also upload at least one picture; I tried to install their upload tool and it reported an error stating that I must use a compatible browser on Win 2K or XP. I am using FireFox. 2 thumbs down!

Oct 17th 2005 3:59PM I confess, I am guilty of this. But in my defence I have to say, this is a CYA maneuver. The logic being that since it doesn't cost me anything more, the more I spread the info around, the more I can spread the blame around if and when the s**t hits the fan.

Oct 4th 2005 12:55PM I use an AutoHotKey script which I coded with commonly misspelled words (I got the list off the internet) to auto-replaced; works great for me.
