Jan 10th 2007 9:25PM This is kind of crazy. I'm supposed to go through my "tens of thousands" (your words) pictures and organize them using file system shortcuts? Woah... sorry man, that's crazy. Whats more bizarre is your comment that "all that takes time... it's wasted time" and yet your proposed solution is the most colossal waste of time imaginable.

I also share the concern that file system shortcuts are incredibly fragile and would not even consider using them as this poor-mans tagging system.

Picasa does a fantastic job of organizing everything and it is FAST. I have never noticed any slowdown whatsoever, and I even have my pics on a network share so that multiple PCs can view them (all of them running Picasa).

All music you upload is publicly available via sideload.com, and a simple search for Pink Floyd for example, (http://www.sideload.com/cb/search/?keywords=pink+floyd&pg=1) reveals hundreds of copyrighted songs available for free download (add to your locker, download).

According to sideload FAQ, "Sideload.com does not store any music, but rather links to files publicly available other places on the net.". This is clearly not the case, as I can simply upload files via mp3tunes.com. Further, it goes on to discuss that DMCA takedown notices can be used to request removal of content.

I cannot see how this scheme is going to survive.

Dec 29th 2006 8:08AM I also signed up and only got 1GB of storage. This despite their homepage banner which loudly proclaims "UNLIMITED STORAGE FREE"!

I would take this misleading ad as a warning. The kind of company which would trick users like this would not hestitate to suddenly start charging you, etc. "Oh, unlimited storage free? Yeah ... we meant unlimited storage free for 30 days."

Thanks, but no thanks.
