FCC says DTV transition going smoothly, few TVs shot up (Engadget)
Jun 15th 2009 11:03PM Before the conversion, I was getting channel 8 in digital format and figured that I would have no problem receiving their signal after the conversion. Boy was I wrong! I can't get it at all. I tried calling the number on their website for problems but all I could do was leave my telephone number and a message and I haven't heard back from them since. The funny thing is that before the conversion, I couldn't get channel 10 digitally but afterwards, it comes in perfectly. Before the transition I called channel 10 to ask about the signal and I told them that I could receive channel 8 and all of the other local channels that I was supposed to but not theirs. I was told that was funny as their antenna is on the same mast as channel 8's antenna. Now after the transition, I can get channel 10 and all of the other local channels except for 8. Supposedly, I'm guessing here, the antennas are still on the same mast so why can't I get 8. Heck, after the transition, I'm getting channels digitally from another city that is an extra 40-50 miles away AND my antenna is not even pointed at that city. Things are very screwed currently.
Mythbusters RFID hacking episode canned by credit card company lawyers (Engadget)
Sep 2nd 2008 2:32PM They can't do anything because the idea was squashed in the planning stage. They called the companies as part of the fact finding portion and the companies had their lawyers at the meeting. The lawyers made it VERY clear that they were NOT to do anything on this subject. So there was never any filming to be released or leaked.
FujiXerox shows off color e-ink display with writing capabilities (Engadget)
Dec 7th 2007 10:00PM Well, you can use it for magazines. Textbooks where concepts that are better explained in color, like medical textbooks. Carrying around a lot of photographs to show off to people. There are many more uses for a color ebook. Personally, I would rather have a color ebook than a black and white ebook.
Seiko Epson shows off UXGA e-paper display (Engadget)
Nov 16th 2007 10:47PM That would be a great idea. A replaceable and rechargeable battery would also be good.
How to speed up OpenOffice (Download Squad)
Aug 18th 2007 7:56PM This is a great tip. I have heard that disabling Java will make some parts of OpenOffice not work. I am going to test my usage without the Java and if I have no problems, that is perfect. If there is some problems, I will re-enable Java and see if my performance tanks or is at least a little bit better.
