Facebook users freak out, CEO responds (Download Squad)

Sep 7th 2006 4:43PM I have major problems with the newsfeed.

Indeed, all of the privacy settings have stayed the same. But there's a difference between someone noticing a few a changes in your profile to every single adjustment being timestamped and broadcast to everyone you know. It's the difference between making a joke to a friend that you don't mind other people hearing and calling all of your friends and screaming "HEY, LISTEN TO THIS!!!"

I had a friend who was in a relationship and switched her profile to "single." Instead of people organically noticing the adjustment over time, it was smack dab on everyone's homepage this morning and her wall was bombarded with questions and comments.

Voyeurism is expected, but Facebook should at least make it a challenge.

You knew this was coming: an American Idol conspiracy! (AOL TV)

May 14th 2006 12:08PM Try this one... I voted for Katharine and got tons of "this number is not in service."

No, there's no conspiracy. The voting system is crappy, but there was no master plan to get Chris kicked off. What interest the FOX have in making sure that the most popular contestant DOESN'T win? Common sense, people.

What also amuses me is people swearing off of a Idol. This happens every season, at least twice a season, when an upset is pulled, yet ratings remain strong.

Oscars: Best Picture (Cinematical)

Mar 6th 2006 8:10AM God damn that Academy!!! Those liberal gay conservative homophobes are so out of touch with mainstream America and fringe elite! And what was up with all that Mel Gibson? Those evagenlical-Christian atheists Jewish fundamentalist Islam sympathisers have no right trying to spread their message! Hollywood is just a bunch of socialists trying to make huge bucks furnishing their mansions to give money to the Republican and Democratic parties so they can continue pushing their corporate Marxist agenda!!!

Why can't a body of 6,000 profressional filmmakers people be more representative of EVERY SINGLE TYPE of person in the United States?

Crash winning just shows you how liberal/conservative left/right America has become.

An Oscar redesign has Alan Alda peeved (Cinematical)

Mar 3rd 2006 7:46PM The Alda impersonation is scary.

American Idol: Goodbye Brenna! (AOL TV)

Mar 3rd 2006 7:37PM Carrie dropped a few IQ points? I thought she sounded 20 times more intelligent (and human. Her programmers are doing a great job) than she did in competition, which isn't saying much at all

Reese is richer than you (Cinematical)

Mar 1st 2006 2:28PM "about a mother fighting demons possessing her child"

And now begins the post-Oscar curse of starring in awful movies.

The West Wing is about to get crowded (AOL TV)

Mar 1st 2006 2:17PM If only Aaron Sorkin were writing the them, these episodes would truly harken back to the golden period.

But Ainsley Hayes? Yay!

Crash can't really beat Brokeback ... can it? Laws and Sausages (Cinematical)

Feb 25th 2006 9:03AM I think Brokeback Mountain is the most qualified candidate, but I also believe in the Crash momentum.

Apparently the difference between me and the rest of the blogosphere is that I don't think Crash is a bad film. I found it engaging, entertaining and thought-provoking. It's been called emotionally manipulating, a charge that can also be levied against the melodrama-filled Brokeback. Heavy-handed political P.O.V.? Good Night and Good Luck is Clooney's 75 minute PSA about submissive media.

A movie fares better when its intention is obvious. I don't mind this new wave of Capras-with-balls. Look at how Munich's artistic merit is being eclipsed by that silly "moral equivalency" debate.

Regarding the politics of the Crash vote: Anyone who votes for Crash is getting relief from white liberal guilt while maintaining their homophobia? Crash voters who recognize the power of the movie are a far cry from O'Reilly claiming that Narnia was snubbed.

Clearly, the nominations are not perfect but I think the AMPAS is making progress. This could have easily been the year of King Kong vesus Walk the Line in all major categories. Even if we don't agree with it, the Oscars do validate movies for tons of people. The Independent Spirit Awards may open the eyes of a couple thousand people who accidentily flip to Bravo next Sunday, but few people are going to recognize the quality flicks of 2005 beyond those that got or were in the running for naked gold men.

She's baaaack! (AOL TV)

Feb 13th 2006 9:02PM Your readers deserve and expect a full apology for that huge spoiler.

Kelly Clarkson: American Idol? What's that? (AOL TV)

Feb 10th 2006 10:12PM I agree with the original post. Yes, she's talented, but without AI she would be at best a back-up singer for a better-looking popstar. AI allows people who normally wouldn't be given the time of day at a record label to be thrust into stardom.

And yeah, she made a name for herself outside of Idol. But the Grammys are a huge deal, she should have acknowledge why people even recognized her at the beginning.

And I'm sick of hearing that she, Carrie and Clay are the only former contestants to have careers. Fantasia is all over the Urban music. Just because you don't listen to it doesn't mean she isn't enjoying success. Ruben had a successful debut and has now hit the Gospel circuit. The only person not living up to the Idol-hype so far has been Bo.
