Nintendo cuts profit forecast by 82% (Joystiq)
Jul 28th 2011 10:32AM Their strategy with the Wii and DS never had a long term endgame in place. The Wii got people to buy it, but didn't manage to turn those new gamers into repeat game purchasers. The DS got people to buy it, and some games as well, but there were so many iterations of the DS, that the basic market for them may be confused as to whether the 3DS is a truly new handheld or just another version.
Nintendo cuts profit forecast by 82% (Joystiq)
Jul 28th 2011 10:14AM Maybe it's because to the average consumer, the 3DS looks like just another iteration of the DS, with a 3D screen. And everyone and their mother was predicting a Wii sales crash last year, of course the insane popularity was going to wear off, especially on a success built by people who aren't used to being gamers and buying games throughout the life of a system.
Things tend to be cyclical in the console biz. A company becomes very popular, ride the popularity for a while, and then make a calculated risk assuming the popularity will continue. And the cycle is complete with the risk doesnt pan out. It happened to sony with the PS3, the risk was making it powerful and full of high end features that made the price expensive. Nintendo's chapter is yet to be written, but the 3DS is the first part of it, WiiU may hit it out of the park, bit its hard to see the wii-fit crowd and the wiiSport technophobe wanting to make the jump to WiiU and its controller.

Windows 7 system requirements: You can probably run it (Download Squad)
May 2nd 2009 10:58AM I'm running it on a 1.5yr old Vaio FE with 1.4ghz processor, and 2gbs of ram. Runs like a dream, due to the low system requirements. If feels more stable than vista on pretty much every front. The combined memory footprint of explorer and desktop window manager on vista used to rival memory heavy programs, but in 7 they don't seem to make as much of an impact.
PS3 movie downloads coming to US this summer (Joystiq)
Jun 26th 2008 11:23AM Well this is always the strategy for movie companies when trying a new format or distribution method. They do it first with their b and c list stuff and then as the service proves its worth, the better movies come along. Remember DVD started with crap too. So did Blu-Ray and then better movies started to make the jump.
Tomonobu Itagaki: A Blood Splattered History (Joystiq)
Jun 5th 2008 4:40PM I agree with tecmo's assesement of the situation regarding his leaving. He is not making these games singlhandedly, and he is not god's gift to games. The games are ok (if you like everything in the environment covered in shiny sauce). His legacy in my opinion is that he was able to iterate on a couple of initial ideas. Ninja Gaiden, Ninja Gaiden Black, Ninga Gaiden Sigma are reiterations of the same game. DOA to DOA four isn't the best fighting games on earth despite his claims. So for me, his legacy is more of him being a prick and a console cheerleader than anything else. As for team ninja, they have made solid games, THEY are the people who get those products out the door and give people a reason to give a damn about him.
Pictures emerge of impending PlayStation Store redesign (Engadget)
Apr 1st 2008 9:30AM I am glad the they are redesigning the store. The new look is very slick, way more fitting for the ps3 that the fisher price store they have right now. I wonder will this look carry over to the PC playstation store, since it is the one I use.
One of my biggest gripes with the store was that it didn't give a substantial enough preview of the thing you were interested in buying. You mean I have to make my decision based on a thumbnail sized picture? With this redesign they seem to address that issue, giving the user a little more to look at in regards to the items they are interested in buying.

Microsoft releases DreamScene for Vista Ultimate users (Engadget)
Sep 25th 2007 5:24PM Yes... you can, with a patch that is pretty widely available. All it takes is a google search. Dreamscene is a feature basically already inside of any Aero capable version of vista, its just made unavailable to all but Ultimate, to act as some sort of perk. Some perk.
But yeah you can, but I'm not going to link to it, I dont want the banhammer.
Microsoft releases DreamScene for Vista Ultimate users (Engadget)
Sep 25th 2007 4:18PM Google it, I have been using Dreamscene on Vista Home Premium for about a month or two now. The steps you have to go though seem daunting at first, but arent that bad. It works like a charm, and is better than those other video wallpaper apps that end up hiding your icons.
I am currently using it, it hasn't slowed down my system at all, but i guess thats a case by case issue.
This page has a few PS3 XMB inspired dreamscene videos.
