Day One On Linux: What Would You Miss? (Download Squad)
Sep 18th 2008 5:31PM Switching from Windows Vista to SuSE 11 with KDE 3.5 was easy. I had some problems with X11 configuration and my nvidia card (laptop), but those were quickly solved with a little bit of shell scripting and a quick C program written to detect if I was connected to the dock at work or not.
Switching from OSX to Linux would be nearly impossible. I'd miss Aperture, OmniOutliner, OmniGraffle, Coda... and you can't tell me that Pidgin is a replacelement for Adium, you just can't. I'd have to get used to completely new keystrokes for KDE's Terminal vs. iTerm and various other programs. It's just not a straight swap even though I can easily run X11 apps in OSX...

Jul 4th 2007 9:59AM No, Bob Barker still is alive and seems young because he constantly has sex with all those hawt models.
He should've been the Viagra spokesman, not Dole and Limbaugh...
Access a second operating system on your Mac with VMware's Fusion (Download Squad)
Jul 2nd 2007 12:47AM I was just going to say .. you can use Fusion while it's in Beta, or you can get Parallels, which comes with Coherence and a bunch of other nifty features.
I'm kinda shocked that you didn't even attempt to mention Paralells Desktop in the article about Fusion. That doesn't seem to be very good reporting to me.
MySpace targets YouTube with MySpace TV (Download Squad)
Jun 27th 2007 3:55PM Of course, 9 times out of 10 when you go to view a clip, there will be an apologetic note from "Tom" in the sidebar explaining wy the service isn't working. And about once a week, the interface will be branded (annoyingly) with a new upcoming film feature's graphics and flashing advertisements. And you won't actually be able to see the film clips, because they'll be overlaid with "punch the monkey" flash ads that are mispositioned in every browser under the sun.
Next week, you'll start hearing about how MySpace is being investigated by the feds for all of the porn videos that are being posted.
A week later, Time/Warner will apologize and hire 300,000 workers in a third world country to preview the film clips and determine which ones can be posted.
Besides, who uses MySpace these days besides porn spammers?
