The Class: The Class Blows the Whistle (AOL TV)
Oct 10th 2006 10:53AM I'm the odd man out. The actress who plays Holly is the real standout of the show for me. After this series, I don't really see most of the actors doing anything else, but she has a comic sensibility that I think will work well in other television situations. Yes, three times with the "I don't understand what you're saying," but what can I say? I look forward to seeing her on the screen each week.
A modest iChat proposal (TUAW.com)
Jul 19th 2006 6:33PM How about making these upgrades to Ichat downloadable for users of previous versions of OSX? I never felt as shunned by the Microsoft Behemoth for using an older OS as I do by Apple and its developers.
Ode to webmail and other online applications for that matter. (The Unofficial Yahoo Weblog)
Jun 2nd 2006 11:43PM I still have not entirely chosen one method over another for handling my e-mail. I have webmail accounts, but I still try to use an e-mail client. Why do I like using an e-mail client? They are more responsive than their online counterparts--you don't have to wait for your browser to send and recieve data. Also, you have access to your e-mails even when you're offline. Being offline is more rare for me than it once was, but I still have an occassional need to get something from an old e-mail while offline. I find that I sometimes need contact info, and I prefer to quickly pull it off my computer's address book instead of logging into Yahoo and looking for it.
The allure of webmail, though, is exactly what you've outlined. It's available from any computer, and you don't have to worry about losing data. I just wish there were some common ground that would allow me the best of both worlds. I feel this way about RSS readers, too.
Automatically downloading TV shows with BitTorrent (Download Squad)
May 9th 2006 6:14PM It isn't ideal, yet, since its default setting is for a bad port, but Democracy seems to be an ideal situation for automatically getting your TV shows, especially if you're on a Mac. Macs seem to have the better client right now, but when all the bugs are worked out, Democracy is has the potential to be a huge player on the field.

Why is YouTube so popular? (AOL TV)
Apr 30th 2006 3:16AM I really never expected MySpace to become the monster it has become. When I heard that it was popular with bands and their fans, it didn't hit me just how quickly people would be washing into the site. So I stuck with Friendster. Then one day I logged into my Myspace account I'd set up, and I noticed there were tons more people than were on Friendster. Yes, it's user interface is a pain. Yes, it's missing some features one might think were critical (such as easy to use Instant Messaging). But it has the one feature you have to have to be successful in social networking: people. And tons of them. It doesn't matter how ugly it is, how awkward the site is. You go on to those sites to hook up with people you know or people you want to know. As long as Myspace doesn't screw up, it will be to this decade what AOL was to the previous decade.
Google Related Links (The Unofficial Google Weblog)
Apr 4th 2006 10:31PM This is a service that Yahoo! has been offering for quite a while now. Of course, Google's strength is its relevance, and when you're looking for related sites, relevance is king.
The Shield: Of Mice and Lem (AOL TV)
Mar 15th 2006 3:46AM Claudette definitely deserves captain. She really is the spine of the show. The Strike Team is the body, but her competence is what allows you to see where the other cops stray from what a cop could be.
When I watch the Shield, I watch it on DVR to fast forward the commercials. The Shield does something that only The Wire manages to do to me. When I start hitting the 45 minute mark, I start dreading that the show has got to end. As the season draws nearer to a close, I begin hating that 45 minute mark more and more.
And that last sequence tonight? What can I say but wow. It managed to inspire anxiety, sadness, and surprise. It's almost amazing that they've got another episode to go! I hate to gush, but this show really is simply that good.
First full length movie available in iTunes (TUAW.com)
Mar 14th 2006 11:25AM This is going to be huge. That musical garners huge ratings for Disney every time it airs, and the soundtrack went to number one on Billboard with no radio support. I think Disney was very smart to send this to Itunes.
Using Yahoo! as your Digital Life Aggregator (DLA) (The Unofficial Yahoo Weblog)
Feb 2nd 2006 6:51PM If I have one major complaint about Yahoo, it would be exactly what you've mentioned. They have a million wonderful services that aren't yet connected. I was termendously excited about Yahoo 360, because as I envisioned it, it would be the octopus's head controlling the many arms of Yahoo. It took forever for Yahoo to even create a widget for Yahoo! Music Engine. I think everyone who uses Yahoo regularly is dying for Yahoo to pull itself together, just a little, just enough to make using all of Yahoo's properties and applications really worthwhile.
ROKR aimed at the kiddies? (TUAW.com)
Sep 16th 2005 10:55AM I think many of you may be too plugged into the Apple way of doing things to realize exactly how the Rokr is going to be useful. I've been using a flash-based player for years because I don't need or want to haul around 20,000 songs with me. For my needs, the IPod is actually underpowered. I love having a player that has a built in mic, an FM tuner, and the ability to hold three or four albums/playlists. I simply don't need to have that much music on me all the time. It's not like I'm going to get stranded on a desert island. There are some things that could've been done better. It could've used USB2, for instance. All in all, though, if it holds 100 songs, allows me to place calls, and has a good browser (I'm all about the WAP, these days); then that sounds good to me. I'll wait a year and try to get it on the cheap from the cell phone company.
