Apple Discussion Boards to receive major overhaul (TUAW.com)
Aug 22nd 2010 8:34AM Why should you be permitted to dissent in a HELP forum? People aren't going there to gossip or debate, they are going there to find answers to their problems. I don't want to browse through 20 pages of iWeb sux and Steve is gay to find out how to keep the Finder from crashing when I empty the trash.
What killed the Kin? (Engadget)
Jul 1st 2010 10:27AM Based on my market research (hours spent in malls with my wife) Microsoft could have saved millions by simply becoming an app developer for the iPhone. The kewlest phone for kewl teens was never going to be a kin. Nor an MS phone of any type.
All snark aside, MS has no cred with teens or young adults. The Xbox is tolerated but not loved and the continuing ring of death has this market segment viewing MS as the gang who can't.
Hulu Plus announced with support for iPad, iPhone, PS3, Xbox Live, and more (update) (Engadget)
Jun 29th 2010 5:45PM Wait a minute: I have to pay $10 AND watch commercials? Fuck That!
Apple randomly canceling some iPhone pre-orders? Update: AT&T pre-orders too? (Engadget)
Jun 20th 2010 10:20AM I know 2 people who received cancellation notices from Apple. Both first ordered from AT&T Tuesday and a couple hours later were notified their order had been cancelled. Both then ordered from Apple successfully. Then the cancelations yesterday. MaryBeth called Apple and was told AT&T's confirmation computer indicated she wasn't eligible for an upgrade until June 2012. Two years from now so AT&T obviously thinks she's upgraded already. So she calls AT&T where she got that problem settled, called Apple back and apparently has her order restored for Thursday delivery. Told my other friend her story but haven't heard back from him yet.
Steve Jobs comments on iPhone developer restrictions (Download Squad)
Apr 11th 2010 10:58AM I was a happy Palm user for years but I switched to the iPhone 2 years ago. It wasn't until my wife came home bitching about her Palm being in an endless start, crash, reboot cycle that I realized my iPhone hadn't done that in the 4 months I owned it. Nor has it in the last 18 months.
I'll take stable, quality, and closed over open any day. Adobe - screw you and the Flash you rode in on.
Four Reasons Why Sarah Palin and Discovery Are a Good Fit (AOL TV)
Mar 24th 2010 3:54PM I'm sure the show will be successful - TV is just the right place for her. You know, a shallow mind and a a shallow media.
Roger Ebert Angry Over Siskel Tribute Video's Removal (AOL TV)
Feb 17th 2010 8:57AM I remember reading the tribute shortly after it was published. Even before watching the videos I was in tears. Reading the Esquire article yesterday had me in tears again - this time tears of rage. I've disliked Disney for years but now I'm motivated far beyond giving Mickey the finger. Until the videos are back Disney gets not a penny from me. Now I understand how the phrase 'that's so Mickey Mouse' came into being.
Study finds people want more from their Kindles, less from their newspapers (Engadget)
Jan 31st 2010 9:17AM @iDavey I'll have to ask you to return to the Internet Remedial Room -
you obviously haven't been paying attention for the last 10 years. Apple doesn't do features. If you had been paying attention you'd know that at least 5 mp3 players had more features than the classic iPod. For bonus points: where are they now in terms of market share? You should be able to at least 5 mobile phones that have more features than the original iPhone. Where are they now?
We could play this game all day long. Apple isn't about features. Apple is about determining what features its audience uses and needs and then making sure those features work flawlessly and obviously. That is why the iPod is #1. That is why the iPhone sells so well - even in embattled San Francisco and New York. And that is why the iPad will sell well.
Amazon pulled Macmillan titles due to price conflict -- confirmed (update: they're back!) (Engadget)
Jan 31st 2010 9:08AM Bezos would have a much better case going if he accepted Macmillon's "offer" and then let his customer's know exactly why Macmillon books were suddenly much more expensive than others. Kindle owners are quite able to publishers to go pee up a tree. We don't need Bezos to do it for us. For now, all I can do is stand on the sidelines and look on while my Kindle gently weeps.
