Sony TG3E / TG1 camcorder review (Engadget)
May 15th 2008 9:54PM I've been searching for reviews on this camera since I heard about it. I purchased the CX7 about a month ago for a trip to China and was absolutely blown away by the quality of the video so the idea of having something with similar (or better) video capture in an even smaller package sounded appealing. So, I was really happy to find this review...mainly because I wanted to make sure the footage was at least as good as the CX7 and that the battery life wasn't too bad. But I was really surprised at some of the negative aspects of the review. For example, I didn't really have an issue with the touchscreen on the CX7 and the TG1 has the same size touchscreen (my fingers aren't that small). I agree that the menu system could use a little bit of work because it takes 5 clicks to delete a file, but it didn't take long to get used to. I also didn't have any issues with the Picture Motion Browser software. I installed it on my notebook and an old desktop and didn't have any issues with the software. I was a little disappointed that I couldn't play back the files with WMP but the Sony software worked just fine. It didn't have any advanced editing capabilities, but I was able to quickly import videos, crop video footage, take decent jpg stills from the footage, and easily burn AVCHD or DVD video discs without any issues. It was as easy as selecting the files -> right click on Burn AVCHD or DVD, pick out the background template you want, and WHAM! Anyway, just my 2 cents. My experience with the CX7 was great. After seeing your footage, I've just put in the pre-order for the TG1.
