Charlie Miller and Kim Jong-Il could pwn the Internet with two years, $100 million (Engadget)
Aug 2nd 2010 12:16PM As a network programmer I see this as an example of, 'easier said than done.' There's no way your going to lay undetected in thousands of computers for 2 years monitoring things. And even then every grid, defense system, and bank uses very complex custom designed software which is hard enough to figure out even when your working for the very company that developed it. The guy giving the presentation is from a security consulting company so of course he wants to scare some big companies/governments right into his profitable hands.

2 sticks you hold in each hand and wave around is nintendo's idea. if it wasn't for nintendo, sony would be releasing a failure eye toy 2. nintendo innovated, took a huge risk, and succeeded. sony is shamelessly ripping them off. this is the textbook definition of why patents exist. you copy me, you pay.

Jan 7th 2010 12:59AM here's a tip microsoft, ford, sony. perceived value does not increase proportionally with the number of buttons in a car. simplicity and elegance is what makes an interface advanced. people will kill themselves trying to operate the systems those cars. my psp doesn't even have dual directional controls and somehow you managed to put it on a steering wheel. whatever unqualified manager acting designer who is leading up this project should be replaced for the good of everyone. oh and the interface is lag city. consider using a tegra chipset.
Novell and Microsoft cut out the GPL cancer from open-source Silverlight (Download Squad)
Dec 24th 2009 8:03PM Moonlight is LGPL/X11, that's not changing.
Here's the point.
Think of Mono/Monodevelop/Moonlight as trunk open source products. Novell develops these cores and is able to make money by selling the rights to produce closed forks of these cores to third parties. For instance if a company wants to make a set top box using the moonlight, or you want to make an iphone app with MonoTouch and sell it.
These things can't be done if Mono has gpl code in it, but BSD, MIT, LGPL licenses makes these things a reality. Common code is contributed back to the trucks and everyone benefits. A nice open library, and the ability to make your own products with it, without giving your private source code away.

Dec 24th 2009 6:00PM The result of removing GPL from mono is that it can now be used in by MORE companies, in MORE products. Open source under GPL prevents code from being used in anything BUT GPL applications. LGPL/MIT license is true freedom from the shackles of ideology.

Feb 6th 2007 2:42AM its really not copying apple. 'a really big screen' isn't new, just not very cost effective. apple raised the stakes and it forces other manufactures to match them, even if it does mean dip in profits all around. thats the game.
