Apple patent controversy: patent diagrams look a lot like existing apps (Download Squad)

Aug 7th 2010 3:18PM I'm going to patent a high level "method for integrating order processing, manufacturing operations, and financial management", then I will have the option to put Oracle and SAP out of business. Hah. High level and general software patents have caused more confusion and stifled more innovation than they are worth. And what about prior art? There are many, many apps that already do exactly what Apple's patent application claims. Apple's application should be denied.

Marketplace is live on Windows Mobile 6.5 phones (Engadget)

Oct 5th 2009 9:26AM Marketplace server not available at 9:30am Monday morning. Running WM6.5 (EnergyROM) on AT&T Fuze. Marketplace software downloaded and installed, but then failed to connect to the database server. Kept getting "server not available" after multiple retries.

Microsoft gets drunk, gives away Technet subscriptions (Download Squad)

Jun 3rd 2009 1:39PM Back up. I just completed the signup process using Firefox 3. Received my Benefit Access Number, received confirmation email, then used Benefit Access Number to confirm registration. I am looking at the list of downloads, and everything is good.

AT&T page confirms HTC Touch Pro as "Fuze" (Engadget)

Sep 5th 2008 10:55PM The Fuze is exactly what I want. I currently have an AT&T (Cingular) 8525, purchased on the first day of availability. So, my 8525 is nearing the end of its 2 year contract and is already upgradeable. While I would like to have a smaller and less hefty device, I am not willing to compromise on function. I have become quite proficient using WM6 Pro, with multiple email accounts (IMAP, POP3, and webmail), multiple browsers, IM client, synced calendar and contacts, many 3rd party apps, MP3s, and converted DVD movies. And, of course, Slingbox! Wifi support has been invaluable. The Fuze will allow me to do all of this faster and with better video quality. AT&T has the best signal coverage in my home area, and even when I cannot get a 3G signal, everything still works well via Edge. The only problem I have had is that the 8525 does not always handle GSM frequencies correctly in other countries, and I am hoping that the Fuze has better international support. I will be upgrading to the Fuze as soon as AT&T makes it available.

SlingPlayer 2.0 enters public beta -- without Clip+Sling (Engadget)

Aug 7th 2008 7:39PM I agree with other posts that streaming quality is a little worse than previous release. Lots of video hesitation and audio breakup, and this is running over a wired ethernet connection to a home LAN to a fast computer. Also, the new guide does not work well. After providing my zip and cable provider, the guide got only partially populated. Channel 0 is listed about 50 times, and then channels 1-99 are listed, and there are no entries for any channel above 99. Cannot find any way to reload the guide, and the guide editing features do not work. The guide shortcomings are a big problem, given that shortcuts no longer appear on the main display. Overall, this feels like alpha code, not beta.

MediaMax is dead, The Linkup is dead, Streamload is dead (Download Squad)

Jul 12th 2008 12:17AM Signed up for Streamload, because it was the service of choice for users swapping Old Time Radio mp3's. Stayed with the service when it switched to MediaMax. Used it for backup and sharing of photos in addition to OTR files. MediaMax was horrible to use -- very slow, terrible navigation, uploaded files took forever to post, and the download manager hung up more often than it worked. I never received a notification that MediaMax was changing to The Linkup, so I was surprised by the announcement that TLU was closing. Went to find my photos -- nada. My account was still there, but it had absolutely no files of any kind. Hundreds of photos and thousands of OTR files just gone. Please let me know if there will be a class action lawsuit. The people who ran this "business" should never be allowed to work again -- poor vision and totally incompetent at everything they tried to do. I should have been more discerning and dropped my subscription long ago, but then you expect services to get better over time, not worse. What a bunch of doofuses.
