Farewell, Internet

Well, here we are. More than four years after launching, Switched and DownloadSquad are unfortunately being closed. I've been thrilled to work at these two sites that have expanded tech coverage beyond the usual gadgets and social networks to cooking, culture, design, art and more. It's been humbling to work with these incredibly dedicated and talented teams of writers, and it would have been impossible to do it without them.
Going forward, you'll still be able to get the best tech news coverage from Engadget, HuffingtonPost Tech, Joystiq and TUAW. While we're still working out some of the details, Switched and DownloadSquad will continue to live on the Web and be fully accessible via search. Understandably, our Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr presences will quiet down, but you can still follow the Switched and DownloadSquad writers on their personal accounts. Thanks for reading.

Downloadsquad is one of only two blogs I consider essential for me to keep up with the happenings in the computer/internet world. Its a shame that its being closed... I hope you guys find a way to continue doing the awesome work you have done here. Good luck.

Wow, this is terrible news. DownloadSquad was an awesome site that will forever live in my memory. Farewell, and let me sob to myself to sleep now.

No!! I really really enjoyed reading downloadsquad. It's one site that I don't just skim through on Google Reader even for repeated news because I like the opinions being presented here.
Are you guys gonna write anywhere else? I really love Time Wasters..

It's a huge shame to see you guys go. I've been following your blogging for a while, and its been consistently one of the best 'internet tech' blogs in that time. And I'm not just saying that because of Jay Hathaway's article about one of my Flash games last, either (although I sure was happy to see that!). DLS covered a nice range of topics compared to other tech blogs that tend to specialize in one topic, and closing you is a bad decision on AOL's part.
Best of luck to all the writers with whatever they do next.
RIFRAFApr 12th 2011 1:42PM
well that sucks! I like DLS! Doesn't make sense that you guys are closing it down...

Fuck AOL. I love DownloadSquad. You guys should be embarrassed being shut down by AOL. Fuck this

This is (was) one of the four blogs I read everyday. So sad!
To all the writers, I wish you luck. If J-Top is right, then this may be the best thing that ever happened to you.

So sad. Your contribution has come down across the world. Farewell to you too, fellows. From Chile, we wish you luck.
