Farewell, Internet

Well, here we are. More than four years after launching, Switched and DownloadSquad are unfortunately being closed. I've been thrilled to work at these two sites that have expanded tech coverage beyond the usual gadgets and social networks to cooking, culture, design, art and more. It's been humbling to work with these incredibly dedicated and talented teams of writers, and it would have been impossible to do it without them.
Going forward, you'll still be able to get the best tech news coverage from Engadget, HuffingtonPost Tech, Joystiq and TUAW. While we're still working out some of the details, Switched and DownloadSquad will continue to live on the Web and be fully accessible via search. Understandably, our Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr presences will quiet down, but you can still follow the Switched and DownloadSquad writers on their personal accounts. Thanks for reading.

@Sebastian Anthony
I already ordered a server today, this website will be mirrored, and kept alive.
Aol isn't taking it down that easy.

@Sebastian Anthony
Any rules in mirroring DL-Squad/ Switched ?
Cause I already have the server, and I'm not willing to see Aol or other big internet entity take down the site so easily.
I'm going to miss your crazy style Sebastian.
Best Regards

As the Marx Brothers would say
"Hello, I must be going.
I cannot stay, I came to say I must be going.
I'm glad I came, but just the same I must be going."
Yeah, it didn't make sense when they did Animal Crackers but, they didn't make sense on purpose. Can't say the same for AOL.

I can't seem to read anymore of your comment. About halfway through your third paragraph, I click on '... More' and all it does is scroll right to the top of the page. I want to read the full comment!

@Sebastian Anthony
any reason for the closure?
I'm sure the lack of inflammatory articles lately from you Seb has a lot to do with it ;)

@Sebastian Anthony I think you have a job offer (this comment was buried at the bottom)...
Come and write for Softwarecrew!
Guys, really sad to hear that Download Squad is closing. However, we'd be particularly keen to hear if you're interested in moving across to Softwarecrew (http://www.softwarecrew.com), produced by Betanews Inc in the States?
Let us know. We've also contacted you directly through the site. This is a serious offer.
Chris/Softwarecrew.

Seb, Sorry to see you guys go. Of all the AOL editors and contributors, you and Josh Topolsky were at the top of my favorites list for kindness, community interest and enthusiasm for tech. My daily rotation of websites I read will be poorer for the lack of DLS and yourself. PLEASE let us know where you end up next!

oh man, this is so sad :(
being a silent reader for over 2-3 years at downloadsquad, (with rare commenting every once in a while), it was such a nice collection of daily tips, apps, timewaster games that made this site special for me :(
wish downloadsquad could stay.

One huuuge "you suck!" coming your way! I loved DLS... you were one of my first RSS feeds I ever subscribed to! What a shame :(

All the money AOL spent on huffpo and they couldn't afford to keep a few bloggers on staff?! :/
A sad day and a stupid move by AOL. :(
It's even raining outside..god must be crying too.
All antivirus applications around the world are at half-staff in mourning.

You are 11 days late for April fools....
Anyone that can do a Siterip please do it, I'll get the server and we can backup Download Squad. We can get all the posts here, and find some editors to make updates.
One of my favorite websitesm and Aol think they can keep shutting down sites, not today!.
So whoever can do the siterip email me at Chris@DigitalFraternity.com
