Apple iPhone and iPod touch confused over daylight saving time... again

Reports of DST-related malfunctions vary wildly, with some iPhone and iPod touch alarms going off early, some late, and with some working just fine. Crazily, one iPhone 3GS user says that his phone correctly jumped forward an hour on Sunday night, but then reverted back an hour yesterday, causing him to be late for work. It's unlikely that these DST issues are caused by a simple bug, either: one iPhone user in Arizona, the only mainland U.S. state that doesn't observe DST, says that his iPhone still automatically jumped forward an hour.
There is currently no known solution. Engadget is reporting on a wide range of possibles fixes -- from a simple restart, to calling your iPhone from another phone -- but as we don't know the underlying cause, it's unlikely that an exact fix exists. It might be variation between devices running iOS 4.2 and 4.3, for example, and perhaps jailbroken iOS devices act differently too. We'll update this post as we learn more. For the time being, make sure the time shown on your phone is correct!

It was 8pm on Sunday and my phone iPhone 3G still said 7pm while my girlfriends 3GS correctly reported 8pm. I switched to airplane mode and back again and that fixed my problem.

After the time change, I no longer have access to my volume controls on my iTouch 2nd Gen. Even a complete reset did not fix the issue.

@m78 Wow, I think you win the prize for 'weirdest bug'.

Causing him to be WHAT for work? Was he late? Was he early? Ahh, the suspense!!!

@Noah You'll NEVER KNOW!

My iPhone 4 did the same thing! I was up late Sunday night and I watched the clock go from 1:59AM to 1:00AM instead of 2AM, after it successfully changed the clock when it was supposed to, the night before.

Mine changed time correctly, but the alarm goes of an our early. It shows it is set for 7:05am, but it goes off at 6:05am. Of course it has to be a recurring alarm due to the fact that since Jan 1st a single alarm no longer works at all.
I'm a developer and I understand that time can be a difficult thing to work with-especially when timezones and daylight savings changes are involved, but this is absurd for a top-tier company. Where is there QA? Surely someone thought to force a time change and see what happens.
I'm not old ;)Mar 17th 2011 3:12PM

I'm in AZ, USA, and when I got up Sunday morning my 3GS showed an hour later. When my wife got up, I warned her not to be alarmed by the time on my phone, as it was off by an hour. She came back into the room and informed me the phone was showing the correct time. So the phone self-corrected around 7 - 8 am, I guess?!?!
