Windows 8 leaked screenshots show Windows Live integration, taskbar tweaks

For starters, taskbar progress indicator support has been expanded to other built-in Windows functions, like hardware installation. Windows Live integration is evolving, too -- you'll be able to log in to Windows 8 using your Windows Live ID and have your avatar set to your local Windows profile picture. This also hints at further integration with the cloud.
There's also a lot of noise being made about an eight-minute Windows 8 install process, though if you've loaded Windows 7 from a bootable SATA hard drive onto a system you've already seen pretty similar speeds (and that's what the tester used, not a DVD). The post also refers to a factory restore function, which would roll back your Windows 8 installation back to its day-one glory in about two minutes.
It's also clear that excited Windows 8 leakers aren't paying any attention to Microsoft's not-so-subtle wallpaper. We're not entirely sad about that.

By the time Windows 9 arrives the task bar will take up half the screen. And how about some leaks regarding price? And, how many different prices will there be? And how long will they support Win 7? Huh?

@kell The taskbar appears to be the exact same size as the Windows 7 taskbar.

@kell That information isn't important this early. Most people want to know about the features, the UI changes, etc. Pricing and support for older operating systems are at the bottom list of list.

@kell Are you some reverse time traveler from the 50s who doesnt understand that operating systems change ever 2ish years?
TSSaloicMar 5th 2011 7:47PM
@kell Windows 7 will receve mainstream support until January 2015. Price will likely be about what Windows 7 was (And every other version of Windows in recent memory). There will likely be 3 consumer facing versions (Home Premium [default], Business, Ultimate)

sketchy - some of these features seem more like minuscule updates--things that my $319.99 Windows 7 ultimate should have already paid for (via updates).

@KrazyCalvin -- You may think OS should change every two years, but try telling that to enterprise and business users.

@HexDSL I hope they do an open beta again... I will build a second computer specifically for it I had so much fun with the win7 beta.

I wouldn't read too much into leaked screenshots at this point. Remember most of the released dev builds of 7 leading up to the beta still had the Vista taskbar. I doubt 8 will keep the Aero look since it clashes too much with the look of all their other products. I all but guarantee the final UI will be more Metro-y even if it doesn't necessarily change that much functionally.

Mac OS X Lion will be better!
embeeMar 8th 2011 4:46PM
@ieajfioasjdio Wow! Really? I suppose you're basing this on... running Lion? Running Win8? Or are you just trolling?
Two words, friendo - Herp. Derp.

Interesting. Anyway real reason I'm here is to apologize to Lee for a comment I left last year on his Pwn2Own post re: Google's Chrome as last man standing. I did not fully understand how the contest works and now that I do I can see why it's significant that no one even attempted to hack it on Day 1.
That article is here: http://downloadsquad.switched.com/2010/03/25/pwn2own-2010-google-chrome-is-the-last-man-standing
and Lee, I sincerely apologize for leaving that incendiary comment

@Usama Wow, thanks. That's impressive...and I assure you, no harm done!
