Dead browser walking: Microsoft launches official IE6 extinction coutdown
Web developers and savvy computer users aren't the only people waiting for Internet Explorer 6 to curl up and die -- Microsoft is getting antsy, too. To help keep tabs on the aging browser's impending demise, the company has launched IE6 Countdown -- a global map which shows curent IE6 install levels.
Forward-thinking, progressive Scandinavia leads the way, with all its nations reporting less than 2% share for IE6. China and South Korea laughs at your pleas, reporting an amazingly high 34.5% and 24.6%, respectively.
The site even suggests some ways you can help accelerate the process -- such as helping your friends update and plastering banners on your own website. We're holding out for the "Uncle Steve wants YOU to upgrade!" posters.

My university (Texas A&M) still has it in some of the computer labs on campus. Windows XP is also still used in other labs (although with firefox).

unfortunately, as long as corporate muppets insist on "not" moving away from IE6 this is little comfort to a lot of web devs... including me. The only real solution is to outlaw IE6 entirely with severe punishment, preferably death for offenders.
Harsh... but fair i think you'll agree.

IE6 had the last usable 'Add to Favorites' dialog. It was badly crippled in IE7, and has been ever since. Updating past IE6 wrecks the dialog, even when evoked from programs other than IE.
Fix that, and maybe we can talk.
