Citing a "source at Microsoft,"
Silicon Alley Insider is reporting that Microsoft plans on showing off Windows 8 in just a few short months. Insider's Matt Rosoff notes that Microsoft's fiscal year wraps up in June, so it just might make sense to demo the upcoming OS on a tablet to whet investor appetites for the coming year. As
WinRumors points out, that's also right around the time of the All Things Digital conference, where Microsoft has historically made some big reveals -- like
Bing and
Surface.
The demo could include a look at a concept tablet interface for Windows 8 inspired by Windows Phone 7's tiled Metro UI. Microsoft certainly needs to show something more finger-friendly -- if you've used Windows 7 on a tablet or watch hands-on videos, you've probably noticed that its interface doesn't provide an amazing touchscreen experience.
