Google Social Search gets more visible

Google has rolled out an update to its search results that will make your friends and contacts play a prominent role in what you see first. Google Social Search has been around since 2009 but has played a fairly minor supporting role until now. With the update, Google will use data from sources like Buzz, Reader, Twitter, Quora, and Flickr to position your personalized search results.

Presumably, if you want to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and you're friends with Matt Cutts, and he's written about the climb, you'll want to see what he has to say about it. We'd certainly rather see results like this in our top ten than content farm spam -- which Google is also busy combating with its Personal Blocklist extension.
